Ambassador of Kazakhstan Meets with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Corina Călugăru

Chisinau, 18 August 2026. Ambassador Almat Aidarbekov held a meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Corina Călugăru.
The meeting featured an exchange of views on current issues of the bilateral agenda and promising areas of cooperation. The sides noted the meaningful political dialogue and discussed opportunities to expand ties in the trade and economic, investment, transport and logistics, energy, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Mr. Aidarbekov briefed his interlocutor on the entry into force of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as on the upcoming Kurultai elections scheduled for August 23rd, 2026.
The Ambassador noted the significant potential for expanding business contacts, diversifying bilateral trade and implementing new joint projects. As examples of the successful presence of companies from the two countries, he highlighted the activities of the Moldovan company JLC Dairy Products in Kazakhstan, as well as the operations of the Kazakh companies Rompetrol, Temir Zhol Zhondeu, Akzhol Kurylys, ES Engineering and Dolce Pharm in Moldova.
Particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s international initiatives. Mr. Aidarbekov briefed the Moldovan side on President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s proposal to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the United Nations. The initiative is aimed at strengthening global cooperation in the field of water security, coordinating international efforts and promoting sustainable water resources management. Amid the current challenges posed by climate change and growing water scarcity in the region, particularly in Moldova, this initiative is gaining particular importance.
In turn, the State Secretary congratulated Kazakhstan on the adoption of the new Constitution and the upcoming Kurultai elections. She emphasized the importance of the political transformations being carried out in Kazakhstan and wished the country success in conducting the elections.
Ms. Călugăru confirmed the Moldovan side’s interest in strengthening relations with Kazakhstan, emphasizing the importance of regular political contacts and the development of practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial ties.
