Akim of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev took part in the opening ceremony of the scientific library of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University, which was named after the famous teacher, scientist Serala Kaniev.
The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, Rector of the university Gulmira Kanai and others.
"Today is a significant event for the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University and for our entire city — we are opening a new library that meets the most modern requirements and international standards. The library is named after Serala Kaniev, a prominent scientist and teacher. He worked for 35 years at this university, passing on his knowledge to numerous generations of students, many of whom have reached significant heights in their careers and lives today," Yerbolat Dosayev said in his speech.
Yerbolat Dosayev wished the current students to strive for high standards in their studies and profession, to remain faithful to their work.
The reconstruction of the library building was carried out according to the project of Kazakhstani and foreign architects and at the expense of Serala Kaniev's son, businessman Berik Kaniev. After the modernization of the library building, a special room for students with special educational needs appeared in it. The reconstruction of the building was carried out, which allowed to increase the total area of the library to 2,195 square meters, and the number of seats to 550. The new library building includes: 2 reading rooms, a conference room, an Academic Writing Center, a study area, rooms for group work of students, 14 individual reading booths, a relaxation room. The library's book collection exceeds 1 million books.
There are 28 libraries operating in Almaty today. More than 3 million visits are recorded in city libraries every year. 95% of the city's libraries have already been modernized, and the material and technical base has been completely updated. In general, it is planned to open 20 more new libraries in Almaty by 2030.
