Akmola region is actively expanding its forest fund. Since 2021, 56.2 million trees have been planted, and by 2027 it is planned to increase to 95 million green spaces. New nurseries and forestry equipment will help preserve biodiversity and improve the environment. Janet Mikishev, head of the Regional Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, told about this at a briefing.
In recent years, more than 56 million trees have been planted on an area of more than 8.7 thousand hectares to increase the forest fund of the Akmola region. In the coming years, it is planned to expand green areas: from 2025 to 2027, 95 million trees are planned to be planted on an area of 15,000 hectares.
To ensure the necessary number of seedlings in the region, it is planned to create two new nurseries with an area of 86 hectares: one in the Zerendinsky district, the other in the Atbasarsky. They will help to provide seedlings, covering the growing need of the region.
"Today, there are 13 forest nurseries with a total area of 175 hectares in the region, where seedlings are being grown for forestry and restoration of natural resources. In addition, it is planned to create a modern forest seed complex that meets international standards on the basis of the Semey Ormany Reserve, which will help provide high-quality planting material for the restoration of the forest fund on a large scale," said the head of the regional Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
In light of last year's forest fires, strengthening fire protection has become a priority. 9 small forest patrol complexes were purchased for operational extinguishing. In addition, an application has been sent for the purchase of 84 units of fire-fighting equipment, including fire trucks, tractors and small logging complexes.
In addition, fishing and hunting farms are being developed in the region to support biodiversity and preserve natural resources. To do this, competitions are held to consolidate hunting grounds and the use of reservoirs is expanding.
"Akmola region actively supports biodiversity, paying attention to the management of fishing and hunting resources. There are 610 reservoirs in the region, of which 243 are used for lake commercial fish farming, 159 for commercial, and 11 are allocated for amateur fishing. This allows residents and guests of the region to engage in fishing in environmentally safe conditions, and also contributes to the development of rural areas," Janet Mikishev said.
There are also 161 registered hunting farms in the region, of which 139 are already assigned to hunting users, which covers an area of 10.9 million hectares. This year, two competitions were held to consolidate hunting grounds, which contributes to the regulation and sustainable management of the region's animal resources.
