The Abylkhan Kasteev State Museum of Art of the Republic of Kazakhstan has opened a personal exhibition of the metamodernist artist Gaukhar Bisengalieva entitled "Heritage of the Great Steppe". The exhibition features more than 60 works by the artist.
Unique works made of felt and natural materials can be seen at the exhibition. Special attention is drawn to the tools for working with wool, handed down to the artist by inheritance from her grandmother, as well as archival photographs of Kazakh craftsmen engaged in traditional crafts.
The central place in the artist's work is occupied by the national Kazakh carpet, a symbol of cultural heritage and spiritual power, deepening the connection with the traditions of the ancestors. The author is known for her innovations in felt art, using this ancient material to convey the rich heritage of the Great Steppe. Abstract motifs on her canvases refer the viewer to the concept of the eternal sky, embodying the ideas of Tengrianism and reflecting the way of thinking of the ancestors.
The exhibition will run until November 24, 2024.
