Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov visited the site where the WorldSkills Kazakhstan 2024 national competitions are held among college students in terms of competencies in industry-specific working professions.
The concept of the event is aimed at cooperation between students of vocational colleges and enterprises in order to check the quality of training, acquired skills to ensure potential employment, including in large international companies.
The head of Government, communicating with the participants of the championship, stressed the relevance of the knowledge they receive.
"The Year of Working Professions announced by the President proves the special importance of technical and vocational education for the whole country. The Government has set ambitious tasks to modernize the structure of the economy. To do this, we need qualified domestic personnel: energy engineers, builders, agricultural workers, and transport workers. the water industry. At the same time, it is important to be prepared for the challenges of digital transformation and technological progress. Therefore, our common task is to rally all the resources of society, and in this direction we will support our youth and similar events," Olzhas Bektenov said and expressed gratitude to the companies that showed their interest and created specialized areas for students to demonstrate their skills.
There was also a meeting with the management of colleges, during which topical issues of personnel training to improve the quality of education were discussed. This year, students of Almaty Construction and Technical College, Astana Polytechnic Higher College, Kazakhmys Polytechnic College, College of Radio Engineering and Communications of the Department of Education of the Abai region, Mangystau Higher Polytechnic College named after Khalel Uzbekgaliyev and others are taking part in the championship.
• According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the total need for personnel by 2030 reaches 1.8 million people, of which about 1 million workers are required with technical education. The greatest demand is expected in the fields of construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. This year, on the sidelines of the WorldSkills Kazakhstan national championship, 555 contestants demonstrate their skills in 30 competencies, including in the field of electronics, industrial automation, mechatronics, engineering graphics, confectionery, electrical installation, welding technologies, web technologies and IT solutions for business, fashion technologies.
On behalf of the Head of State, great attention is paid to improving the quality of training for working professions. In 2024, 142.5 thousand students enrolled in colleges at the expense of the budget – 1.5 times more than in 2023. A dual education system is being introduced, within the framework of which contracts have been signed with 496 colleges and more than 7 thousand enterprises for the training of 75 thousand students. Since September 1, the scholarship of college students has been increased by 50% from last year's level. In addition, projects for the construction of 8 dormitories with 2,103 places for VET are being implemented this year alone.
• As part of the implementation of the tasks set by the Head of State for the Year of Working Professions, following the results of the inspection and conversation with the participants, the Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Education, together with the Akimat of Astana, to create a National Competence Center to support and develop students of vocational schools. The center will serve as a dialogue platform for business and a personnel training system, as well as become a training base for participation in international professional skills competitions.
