Drug use is a serious problem that has profound medical consequences for human health. The capital's mental health center told about the consequences of taking drugs, the official website of the Mayor's Office of Astana reports.
Drug addiction involves various physical and mental consequences. The physical consequences are organ damage, disorders of the cardiovascular system, problems with the respiratory system, digestive disorders, as well as various infectious diseases. There are also disorders of the immune system, deterioration of general health and weakening of the immune system, which makes the body more vulnerable to various diseases.
"For 9 months of 2024, the number of people registered for drug addiction in the City Mental Health Center decreased by 1.5%. The number of registered persons as of October 1, 2024, is 976 people, including 3 teenagers, which is 14 people less than in 2023.
At the same time, the number of people registered for drug addiction for the first time decreased by 41.3%. This year, 51 people, including 27 people, have become users of synthetic drugs. In total, 262 drug addicts were voluntarily treated in the round-the-clock hospital," the data was shared at the Mental Health Center of Astana city.
The center also noted that the mental consequences of drug use are no less serious. Drug exposure can cause depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, learning and memory disorders, and lead to the development of addiction.
Prolonged drug use can alter the chemical balance in the brain, which can lead to severe mental disorders and even lead to suicidal thoughts.
It is worth noting that the City's Mental Health Center is working to educate about the risks of drug use, provides assistance to people who are faced with the consequences of use, and also helps to fight addiction and restore the mental health of victims.
