A service member of military unit 5573 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Corporal Dostyk Zhaksylyk (seen in the video wearing a black T-shirt), prevented a tragedy and saved the life of a young man who attempted to jump off a bridge in the capital.The incident occurred at around 00:30 on the night of June 21 on the "Vodopad" bridge located on Koktal Street. Emergency services received a report that a man, born in 1996, was standing behind the bridge’s railing and appeared to be preparing to jump into the river. Preliminary findings indicated that he was in a severely distressed emotional state.Before police could arrive, tragedy was averted thanks to the quick and decisive actions of Corporal Zhaksylyk, who was returning home after duty. Noticing the man in a precarious position, he immediately approached and began talking to him in an effort to dissuade him from taking a fatal step.“At first, I thought someone was just out for air,” said Corporal Zhaksylyk. “But as I got closer, I realized he was clearly not himself. He was standing behind the railing, holding on with just one hand. There was no time to hesitate. In moments like that, you don’t think — you act.”Demonstrating composure and calm, the service member engaged the man in conversation to calm him down.          A surprise for the psychologist was made by convicted medium-security institutions in the Abai region.               The work of psychologists is very important in correctional institutions, they are the ones who work with convicts from the moment they are admitted until they are released. Psychologists are the first to learn about the convict's character and his inclinations. Many of them, having lost their freedom, lose faith in people, connection with their relatives and find themselves in a depressed state.           Nazgul Shakarimova began her work as a psychologist in 2013 at the institution OV-156/19 DUIS in East Kazakhstan region. Now she works at the institution No. 20 DUIS in the Abai region. So, arriving at the next appointment, the employee was pleasantly surprised when, upon entering the office, she was greeted by convicts with flowers and a gift made with her own hands.           — I was 25 years old when I was convicted. A young wife and two small children stayed at home. When I arrived here, I wanted to divorce my wife, I did not believe that a young, beautiful woman would be waiting for me. The administration of the institution offered me to go to work, they said that this way I could help my loved ones and pay for lawsuits against the verdict, but I had no desire. I didn't see the point. Talking with Nazgul Altayevna, I began to understand the meaning of life and that I am the blacksmith of my happiness. But everything went well, and on the appointed date, parcels with tulips were sent to the following addresses.           "I'm serving a sentence for murder." Two sons, 13 and 10 years old, are waiting for me at home. After my incarceration, my mother took custody of the children, and she has been raising the children for five years now. She brings them to see me every time, and supports me in every way. On the eve of the celebration, we decided to please our mothers, because it is pleasant for every woman of any age to receive flowers.
