Meeting with the Head of the International Migration Mission

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ye. Nysanbayev held a meeting with the Head of the International Migration Mission (IOM) in Kazakhstan and the country office with coordination functions for Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Serkhan Aktoprak.
The main topics of discussion were issues of assessing the relationship between migration, the environment and climate change, taking into account population mobility in national adaptation plans and further cooperation between the MENR RK and the IOM.
During the meeting, Ye. Nysanbayev expressed gratitude to the IOM for its support to Kazakhstan in developing and implementing effective migration policies.
The Minister noted that IOM, in close cooperation with the Government of Kazakhstan, is working on the implementation of numerous programs and initiatives aimed at managing migration, protecting migrants' rights and strengthening Kazakhstan's institutional capacity in the field of migration policy.
At the same time, the Minister invited IOM to participate in a workshop on the adaptation plan, which will be held on December 23 in Astana. Ye. Nysanbayev also proposed to organize joint events in preparation for the holding of the Regional Climate Summit in 2026 in Kazakhstan, including on the sidelines of COP-30 in Brazil (November 2025).
In turn, the Head of the International Migration Mission in Kazakhstan, Serkhan Aktoprak, expressed readiness to work together with the MENR. He also expressed hope for a bilateral meeting between Minister Ye. Nysanbayev and IOM Director General Amy Pope, as part of her participation in the Astana International Forum.
Following the meeting, the Parties expressed hope for continued mutually beneficial cooperation.
