During the irrigation period of this year, five districts of Zhambyl region were provided with irrigation water from the transboundary rivers Shu and Talas. These are the Kordai, Merken, Bayzak, Zhambyl and Talas districts.
On April 26, Bishkek hosted the 33rd meeting of the Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic on the use of interstate water facilities on the Shu and Talas Rivers. The meeting approved the schedule of water intake from interstate sources on the Shu and Talas rivers during the irrigation period of 2024.
As a result, 418 million cubic meters of water entered Kazakhstan through the Talas River instead of the projected 380 million cubic meters. This is 94.2 million cubic meters more than last year. According to the approved schedule, 165.3 million cubic meters of water were received along the Shu River, which is 29.7 million cubic meters more than a year earlier.
"During the irrigation period of this year, farmers of Zhambyl region were fully provided with irrigation water in accordance with their requests. In particular, 533.3 million cubic meters of water were supplied for irrigation of 90.1 thousand hectares of land," said Kairat Amanov, director of the Kazvodkhoz branch in Zhambyl region.
