The results of the beet harvest were summed up at a government meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin. With an average yield of 535.5 quintals per hectare, about 1.3 million tons of sugar beet were harvested in Kazakhstan.
As of December 20, Kazakhstani sugar factories accepted 988.6 thousand tons of root crops for processing: Aksu Kant – 351.7 thousand tons (including 39.3 thousand tons from Zhambyl region), Koksu Sugar Factory – 252.6 thousand tons, Merken Sugar Factory – 384.3 thousand tons. The rest of the crop is stored in the cahats of farmers awaiting processing.
Half of the beet harvest, 640 thousand tons, fell on the Zhambyl region, where sugar beet is processed only by the Merken sugar factory. Based on the existing capacities, it will be able to accept 450 thousand tons for processing, 100 thousand tons – the Aksu plant in the Zhetisu region, and the remaining 90 thousand tons will be sent to Kyrgyz sugar factories.
This decision was made to ensure the processing of the entire sugar beet harvest. Agreements on uninterrupted sugar acceptance, processing and return shipments have been reinforced at the government level between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, farmers, regardless of which plant the beet was delivered to, will receive subsidies from both akimats and sugar factories in accordance with the current procedure.
