Higher education institution rectors got acquainted with the scientific potential of KazNU
The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek and rectors of about 20 Kazakhstani higher education institutions got acquainted with the scientific potential of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.
The heads of higher education institutions were welcomed by the rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev and were given a tour of the newly opened laboratories. First, the Kazakh-Chinese joint laboratory "Remote Sensing Technology and Application", opened as part of the 90th anniversary of KazNU, was shown. Currently, scientists here are monitoring environmental problems such as water shortage, drought, and land degradation caused by climate change in the Central Asian region. In addition, through remote monitoring, they provide early warning of natural hazards in the region, ensuring environmental safety and sustainable development.
Then, the university leaders got acquainted with the activities of the supercomputer center based on KazNU. The high-tech device will allow scientists from all over Kazakhstan to work with large amounts of data, simulate various situations of state bodies and develop the country's IT infrastructure. The maximum performance of the device, which is considered the most powerful in Central Asia, is 1.94 PFLOPS. It is also included in the list of the top 600 supercomputers in the world. The supercomputer will significantly expand the capabilities of the university in the field of computing, increasing the efficiency and accuracy of scientific research.
The guests visited the Engineering Competence Center for Robotics and Robotization, which is being implemented for the first time in our country. Industrial robots from the German company "KUKA" are displayed here. The center trains professional personnel working in the "Industry - 4.0" system, and sets the goal of automating and digitizing production. In the future, the center will become a place for training qualified personnel for the industry of Kazakhstan, combining science, education and domestic industry.
In addition, the rectors visited the center for innovative products and high-tech projects "Farabi Hub", which was established in the framework of the 90th anniversary of KazNU. The area of the center "Farabi Hub" is 5 thousand square meters. The hub implements creative industry, artificial intelligence, startup projects. Here are located the centers of ZTE, BASF, Binlin Technology Corporation and other foreign companies, as well as research institutes based on the university. The rectors were presented with innovative projects of the Brain Institute located in the Farabi Hub, the Robotics and Mechatronics RoboMech Scientific and Educational Center, the Biology and Biotechnology Research Institute, the Forensic Expertise Center, and the National Nanotechnology Laboratories of the Open Model.
During the meeting, the heads of universities discussed issues of strengthening work in the field of science and higher education between domestic universities, strengthening partnerships between scientists, exchanging experience, and implementing joint scientific projects.
