Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic Strengthen Cooperation in the Library and Cultural Sphere

Prague, 15 May 2025 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Czech Republic, Bakyt Dyussenbayev, held a meeting with the Director General of the National Library of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Foltýn.
The meeting focused on prospects for the implementation of joint projects aimed at promoting Kazakh and Czech cultures and strengthening bilateral humanitarian ties. In this context, both sides expressed mutual interest in establishing institutional cooperation between the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Library of the Czech Republic. The cooperation is expected to include joint exhibitions, exchange of publications, digitisation of library collections, and the development of professional interaction in the field of library and information technologies.
Mr Foltýn confirmed the Czech side's readiness to expand cooperation and sign the corresponding memorandum. He also informed about the planned participation of the Czech delegation in the World Library and Information Congress, which will be held in Astana from 18 to 22 August 2025, and expressed interest in continuing a substantive dialogue with Kazakhstani partners.
Particular attention was paid to issues of cultural exchange in the context of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Kazakh poet and educator Abai Qunanbaiuly. In this regard, the Ambassador informed about the Embassy's plans to publish a special Czech-language edition of Abai's "Words of Edification" and proposed holding a presentation of the book at the premises of the National Library.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual interest of Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic in further expanding cultural and academic cooperation and laid the foundation for a sustainable partnership between the national libraries of the two countries.
