23 February 2026, Montreal. Members and Observers of the ICAO Air Navigation Commission visited the headquarters of Air Canada. Kazakhstan holds observer status within the Commission.
During the visit, the airline’s management and subject-matter experts provided an overview of the carrier’s operations, its flight safety priorities, the organization of aircraft maintenance, and the implementation of advanced digital solutions.
Presentations were delivered by Mr. Benoît Lecours, Senior Director, Regulatory Compliance and Training at Air Canada, and Mr. Kristopher Wong, Boeing Fleet Engineer. They briefed participants on the Fatigue Risk Management Program and the Boeing Aircraft Health Monitoring system, which analyses data relating to the technical condition of aircraft.
The participants also visited the airline’s maintenance hangar. The delegation reviewed the organization of maintenance activities and aircraft condition monitoring procedures.
A demonstration was provided of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) operated via tablet devices. These are used to conduct visual inspections of aircraft surfaces before and after flights; detect microscopic damage to the fuselage, wing components, and tail section; monitor the condition of ailerons; and inspect aircraft following de-icing operations.
The use of drones significantly reduces inspection time, enhances the accuracy of defect detection, and mitigates human factor risks.
