On August 4, 2026, Ambassador-at-Large – Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty Zhanibek Abdrashov participated in the opening ceremony of the FIDE World University Team Chess Championship, organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

Following the qualification stage, which brought together 79 teams from 49 countries, 16 university teams advanced to the final stage, including representatives of the world's leading universities.

Kazakhstan was represented at the Championship by teams from the Kazakh National University of Sport, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Almaty Management University.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation Timur Turlov, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and the academic community.
