Short-term vocational training courses for convicts in the field of cooking were held at the maximum security institution of the Abai region. The training is organized as part of the implementation of programs for social adaptation and increased employment of convicts after release.
The courses were held with the participation of teachers from Semey College of Business and Service, who conducted a practice-oriented master class on cooking fast food. During the lesson, the participants mastered basic culinary techniques, got acquainted with the technology of cooking popular fast food dishes, and also learned the basics of sanitary standards and the organization of the work process in the kitchen.
The main purpose of the event was the formation of convicts' primary professional skills in the field of public catering, the development of labor competencies and increasing their competitiveness in the labor market after release. Such initiatives are aimed at reducing the rate of recidivism through successful social integration.
- Previously, I did not do cooking seriously — I cooked only simple dishes for myself. During the course, I realized that this could become a real profession. They explained all the cooking steps in detail, showed us how to work carefully and quickly. It is especially valuable that we prepared on our own and immediately saw the result. Now I have a desire to develop in this direction and, after my release, try to find a job in the catering industry. This gives hope for the future," the convict shared.
- We are systematically working to ensure that every convict has the opportunity to get a sought-after profession. The culinary direction was chosen for a reason — this is one of the areas where there is always a demand for specialists. Our task is not just to occupy the convicts, but to give them real skills that will help them start a new life after their release. Such courses increase self-confidence and form a responsible attitude to work," said Aydin Uvais, head of the Department for the organization of labor for convicts.
The organizers note that such educational events will be continued, and the list of professions available for training is planned to be expanded.
