A street in a Belarusian city is named after a hero from Kazakhstan 18.04.2025
A delegation from Belarus came to the tournament in Karaganda! On April 16, the Open Republican Athletics Tournament in memory of Kazybek Nurzhanov, Hero of the Soviet Union, started. A native of the village of Aktogay, Karaganda region, died in battle during the capture of the Belarusian city of Volkovysk. Our countryman is buried in the mass grave of the village of Derechin. Volkov residents cherish the memory of the hero-liberator Kazybek Nurzhanov. The local sports school hosts an annual athletics tournament in honor of the soldier from Kazakhstan. In 2019, the athletics arena in Karaganda was named after the hero and at the same time the first championship of his memory was held.In 2025, athletes from the same school from the city of Volkovysk came to Karaganda to participate in the tournament.– We are very warmly welcomed in Karaganda. A pleasant surprise was the meeting at the airport, with baursaks and posters. The Kazybek Nurzhanov memorial tournament is a tradition for us. It was held 47 times in Volkovysk. Athletes from secondary schools of the city and the village where the soldier is buried participate in it. We honor the memory of Kazybek Nurzhanov: a street is named after him, there is a memorial plaque at the sports school, and a corner of the defender of our city is decorated in the museum of one of the schools. This year, 10 schoolchildren from Volkovysk and Grodno are participating in the competitions in Karaganda. We set two records here five years ago, and we expect good results this year," says Natalia Mosel, a coach from Belarus. In general, more than 200 athletes from cities and regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a team from the Republic of Belarus take part in the competition. Kazbek Nurzhanov's family will present cash prizes to the tournament's record holders.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/karaganda-sport/press/news/details/977864?lang=kk
