The 49th republican memorial among young athletes (2008–2009) was held in Karaganda to commemorate the Hero of Labor, the legendary miner Yauda Musagaliyev. The competition was dedicated to all the fallen miners. More than 200 athletes from the cities of Kokshetau, Satpayev, Petropavlovsk, Saumalkol and the Karaganda region took part in it.
Two high achievements were achieved.
Alina Golovina from the A. Moldagulova Sports Boarding School won this championship in a record time of 7.43 seconds over 50 meters with obstacles. And Georgy Kozma showed a result of 6.90 in the hurdles, surpassing the achievement of Vitaly Zems. The guy is a representative of the Temirtau branch of the sports boarding school.
Pupils of the A. Moldagulova Olympic Reserve Boarding School-College of the Karaganda region showed excellent results in this tournament.
Among them is Yaroslav Zasimovich, a representative of a famous sports dynasty. He won a bronze medal in high jump.
- At first I was fond of wrestling, but then I saw my grandfather and brother jumping, and I decided to continue the family business. I want to get into the national team. There is a Kazakhstan championship ahead. My grandfather trains me. He said I have potential, - says Yaroslav.
The athlete's mentor is the famous Sergey Gennadyevich Zasimovich, a Soviet track and field athlete and ex-European record holder (1984). His best result - 236 centimeters - still remains the record for Kazakhstan in high jump.
