Robots and drones: the Minister of Defense praised the developments of Astana IT University students

As part of the reform of the training program of military departments, the Minister of Defense, Colonel General Ruslan Zhaksylykov, visited Astana IT University, one of the leading technical universities in the country.
The head of the Defense Ministry, who got acquainted with new approaches and opportunities in training the military-trained reserve, paid attention to the quality of equipment and training of students.
- The military department cannot be perceived only as a place where you can get a military ticket. We need to fundamentally change this concept and create training centers on the basis of departments. There, future sergeants and reserve officers should receive specific knowledge necessary for the Armed Forces, - noted the Minister of Defense, Colonel-General Ruslan Zhaksylykov.
He also noted that the reform of military departments was caused by the need to prepare for new types of threats, as well as to ensure a reliable and professionally trained reserve.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense was shown technical developments of students in the field of robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles.
A UAV presentation with 13 unmanned aerial vehicles on the balance sheet of the Astana IT University center was held. The Minister noted that young people are increasingly involved in new, modern e-sports, including piloting in simulators and FPV drone racing, as well as participating in research projects on creating their own drones and developing software.
He also noted that the comprehensive research conducted at the university in the field of network defense, secure data transmission and analysis of geospatial information is of interest to the military.
At the end of the visit, the Minister of Defense set a number of tasks. Among them are specific tasks for the training of junior specialists for the Kazakh army. He instructed to adjust the curricula and prepare them in accordance with the requirements of the Armed Forces.
Currently, 524 students are being trained under the reserve officer and sergeant program on the basis of the military department of Astana IT University in the following specialties: cybersecurity, geoinformation systems, topographic works, organization of automation of air defense troops management, and others.
