An extended board meeting of the education department was held in Kostanay region, where the results of work for 2024 were summed up and key development areas for 2025 were outlined. Particular attention was paid to improving the quality of education, building new schools and kindergartens, ensuring safety and training in-demand specialists.
The President of the country has repeatedly emphasized the importance of creating equal opportunities for obtaining a quality education, regardless of place of residence. Large-scale work is being carried out in this direction in the region.
Financing and modernization of the education system
The budget for the education sector of Kostanay region has increased by 23% over the past two years and exceeded 218 billion tenge in 2025. Significant funds are being spent on updating the material and technical base of educational institutions. Last year, 1.5 billion tenge were allocated for these purposes, which made it possible to equip schools with modern equipment, including 59 specialized classrooms (chemistry, physics, biology) and STEAM laboratories.
An important step was to increase the speed of the Internet connection in educational institutions. Today, all schools in the region are provided with high-quality Internet, and its speed has increased from 5-10 Mbit/s to 70-100 Mbit/s in two years.
Construction of schools and kindergartens
Work on the construction of new schools continues. In 2025, two schools have already been opened in the Aeroport and Bereke microdistricts, and by the end of the year, it is planned to commission 5 more educational institutions, including 3 in rural areas (Auliekolsky, Kostanay and Dzhangeldinsky districts).
At the same time, the issue of accessibility of preschool education is being addressed. Over the past two years, the queue for kindergartens has been reduced by 2 times - from more than 5,000 to 2,700 children. In 2024, 7 new kindergartens for 1,000 children were opened in the region, and construction of two more facilities is ongoing - in the Aeroport microdistrict and in the city of Rudny.
Safety in schools
One of the priorities remains ensuring the safety of educational institutions. In 2025, more than 3 billion tenge was allocated for these purposes. As a result, all schools in the region will be equipped with licensed security, turnstiles and CCTV cameras.
Also, over the past two years, in order to improve the comfort and safety of students, 35 boiler houses have been moved outside of school buildings.
Training of in-demand specialists
2025 has been declared the Year of Working Professions in Kazakhstan, which makes vocational education issues especially relevant. The region is actively working to modernize colleges and train personnel taking into account market needs.
Kostanay region is one of the leading industrial and agricultural regions of the country. In the coming years, large investment projects will be implemented in industry and the agro-industrial complex, which will create thousands of new jobs. In 2025 alone, 7 new projects are planned to be launched in mechanical engineering and metallurgy, which will create more than 3,000 jobs.
In order to provide enterprises with qualified personnel, cooperation with businesses has been established - employers take part in the modernization of college educational programs, the opening of new in-demand specialties and practical training of students.
Prospects and new challenges
Work on the development of education in the Kostanay region continues. Particular attention is paid to improving the infrastructure in rural areas - more than 67 billion tenge are allocated for these purposes in 2025. It is planned to repair 83 access roads and 382 streets in 103 settlements, implement 40 projects to provide high-quality drinking water, as well as install 15,000 street lamps and 4,300 lighting poles.
Creating comfortable conditions for learning, supporting teachers and training future specialists are key areas of work in the field of education. All tasks are under constant control, because investments in education are investments in the future of the region and the whole country.
