Almaty volunteers started the year with charitable deeds 25.01.2025
After the heavy snowfall in Almaty on January 22-23, city residents and local volunteers showed genuine support and care for each other. The city's municipal services worked in an enhanced mode, clearing roads of snow and trying to prevent traffic jams on main highways. Employees worked around the clock, ensuring the safety and comfort of city residents.Despite the adverse weather, about a hundred volunteers went to the homes of lonely pensioners and helped clear their yards of snow.“It's not easy to shovel snow when you're over 70. I was very grateful that the volunteers didn't remain indifferent and came to help. In addition to helping hands, they also brought warmth to their hearts, and their kind words can cheer you up on a frosty day. I felt like a resident of a caring city,” said pensioner Elena Konstantinovna. The young people not only distributed hot tea and food to utility workers, but also helped clear the sidewalks of snow. The residents of the city, seeing this care, also took part in charity events. Many of them showed an example of unity and care by donating food, snow removal equipment, or helping their neighbors.Such events are not new to Almaty. The city’s volunteers regularly organize various events that provide assistance not only during winter natural disasters, but also at any time of the year. They participate in social projects, support large families, and organize collections of clothes and food for low-income citizens.“We cannot remain indifferent when we see that help is needed. Volunteering is not a one-time event. This is our contribution to the development of our city and to warm relations between residents. Thus, we learn to appreciate the daily work of sweepers, cleaners, and utility workers, whom we sometimes do not notice. Almaty is our common home, let's support each other and take care of our beloved city together! ”- says Zere Maksuthan, a volunteer of the “Qamqor charity” foundation.Although the heavy snow in Almaty was a test for the city, it also became a great opportunity for people to show themselves. In such moments, unity and mutual assistance are of particular importance. For several years, Almaty volunteers have become real heroes of the city in everyday life, turning it into a cozy city.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/almaty/press/news/details/924503

Environmentally friendly snow melting technology has been applied for the first time in Almaty within the framework of the Taza Kazakhstan concept. 23.01.2025
In Almaty, as part of the implementation of the Taza Kazakhstan concept, initiated on behalf of the Head of State, a snow melting plant was opened for the first time in the country. A special feature of the project is the environmentally friendly snow melting technology used, which is a unique experience for Kazakhstan. The technology allows not only to reduce the cleaning time of the city during snowfalls, but also to minimize environmental damage to the environment. Previously, snow from the streets of the city, along with anti-icing materials, including salt solutions, got into the soil. Additional resources were spent on soil reclamation. As the head of the improvement department of the Municipal Infrastructure Development Department of Almaty, Bekezhan Almyrza, noted, the introduction of a snow melting point is a significant step in ensuring environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life in the metropolis. This solution significantly reduces the time and resources spent on snow removal outside the city, as well as reducing the negative impact on the environment.Teachers and students of the Kazakh Automobile and Road Institute (KazADI), with which the Mayor's Office of the city cooperates under a memorandum on personnel training, got acquainted with the work of the new point and innovative snow disposal technologies. The students got acquainted with the key stages of the work and innovative technologies. The snow collected from the streets of the city enters a special receiving structure for pre-sorting, then it is fed into melting plants. An important aspect is the fact that warm wastewater enters through the urban sewer network and passes through a pumping system, supplying the right amount of heat for melting. The installation capacity is up to 1,200 cubic meters of snow per day.The process of melting snow occurs under pressure, which allows you to speed up the process and ensure greater work efficiency. After the snow dissolves, the resulting meltwater is filtered from sand and other small particles, passing through several stages of purification. As a result, the meltwater is returned to the urban sewer network, which minimizes the burden on the environment and allows for the rational use of the city's resources.KazADI Rector Dauren Yesentai noted that for students of the department studying transport and environmental technologies, visiting the snow melting point has become informative and will be useful in the future."We were able to see how environmentally friendly technology is used in practice, which significantly reduces the negative impact on the environment. Such experience is invaluable, especially in a modern city, where environmental and infrastructure issues need to be addressed promptly. Students can rely on these technologies in their further studies and take them into account in the design of infrastructure facilities," the rector emphasized.1st-year student Sultan Sailaugazy, who is studying in the specialty "transport equipment and technologies", noted that the information received during the visit will help in the future to contribute to improving the environmental and infrastructural efficiency of the city. "We have studied the entire process, starting with the flow of water through the sewer network to the final filtration of meltwater. This not only helps to reduce the burden on city services, but also minimizes environmental risks. I am sure that this knowledge will be useful to me in the future when I work in the field of environmental management. I plan to use the knowledge I have gained to develop more effective solutions in the field of ecology and natural resource management," the student said.In turn, 1st-year student Bakytzhan Almabai, who is studying in the specialty "highway construction", noted that visiting the snow melting point was a real discovery for him."I learned how new technologies can affect the improvement of urban infrastructure. It is especially important that this project reduces the need to transport snow outside the city, which in turn helps to reduce transportation costs and emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. We will definitely use this knowledge in our professional activities and strive to develop more effective solutions for our city," the young man shared. It should be noted that snow is brought to the melting point from the territories of Auezovsky, Almalinsky and Bostandyk districts of Almaty. These areas face an acute problem of snow dumps, and heavy traffic makes it difficult to effectively remove snow from the main streets. Since the launch of the facility, 24.4 thousand cubic meters of snow have been melted. The creation of a snow melting point is a solution to urgent problems of snow disposal and an important step in the implementation of a broad environmental protection strategy within the framework of the Taza Kazakhstan program.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/almaty/press/news/details/923334
