Today, the Ministry of Energy, together with the Association of Electric Machine Builders of Kazakhstan and the Association for Assistance in Infrastructural and Innovative Development, organized a round table to discuss government support measures for domestic manufacturers of equipment and technologies.
The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies, deputies of the Mazhilis, heads of industry associations, domestic manufacturers and international experts.
Welcoming the participants, Vice Minister of Energy Bakytzhan Ilyas noted the importance of the meeting.
- Today's round table is a great opportunity for a constructive dialogue between the Government, the Mazhilis of Parliament, business and the expert community. We must join forces to develop new approaches that will ensure the successful implementation of the National Project to modernize the Energy and Utilities sectors," the Vice Minister said.
According to the Vice Minister, today, the electric power industry occupies a key place in the economy of Kazakhstan. This industry accounts for more than 8% of GDP, and the volume of electricity generated last year amounted to more than 110 billion kilowatt hours. At the same time, about 70 percent of the equipment of electric power plants and electrical networks require modernization, which opens up great prospects for domestic producers.
- The national project "Modernization of the Energy and Utility Sectors" is aimed at updating energy infrastructure, increasing energy efficiency and introducing modern technologies. Special attention is paid to the participation of domestic producers in the implementation of this national project. It is important that Kazakhstani companies become the main suppliers of equipment, and in this regard, the Government continues to implement state support measures, including the conclusion of long-term contracts and the purchase of locally produced equipment," Bakytzhan Ilyas said.
The Vice Minister noted that work is already underway in this direction. For example, for 9 months of this year, the volume of purchases of goods and services amounted to 21.2 trillion tenge. For 11 months of this year, the amount of long-term contracts concluded with domestic producers increased by 34 percent and amounted to 372 billion tenge.
Also, during the event, international experts shared their experience in developing energy infrastructure and supporting domestic producers in this context.
Following the results of the round table, recommendations were developed for government agencies that should have a qualitative impact on the implementation of the National Project "Modernization of the Energy and Utility Sectors" and increase the share of Kazakhstani content in energy company purchases.
