The “Jasyl Cross – 2026” ecological plogging competition was held in Aktobe as part of the nationwide environmental program “Taza Kazakhstan”.The event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people, foster environmental awareness, and encourage a responsible attitude toward the environment.Approximately 500 people participated in the environmental campaign, including civil servants, representatives of youth organizations, volunteers, members of the “Zhasyl El” youth labor brigades, and community activists.A total of 50 teams took part in the competition. What is African swine fever?African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious septic disease of domestic pigs, including dwarf pigs, and wild boars. Currently, there is no vaccine available to prevent it. Although ASF poses no danger to humans, infected livestock must be culled immediately. The virus is very resilient and can be transmitted not only from one animal to another, but also through blood-sucking insects and uncooked meat products.What to do?Keep pigs indoors and do not allow them to roam freely.Keep pig areas clean, regularly treat for blood-sucking insects and rodents, and have adequate disinfectants available.Avoid feeding pigs animal feed and food waste. Do not allow unauthorized persons into areas where pigs are kept;Present animals to the veterinary service for clinical examination and vaccination;Do not dispose of animal carcasses, waste from their care and processing in landfills, roadsides, or bury them in your garden or other land;Immediately inform the veterinary service of all cases of pig deaths or illnesses;Do not attempt to process the meat of dead or forcedly slaughtered pigs – this is prohibited and will inevitably lead to further spread of the disease and may cause irreparable harm to your health and the health of your loved ones;Do not slaughter or sell pork without a pre-slaughter veterinary inspection of the animals and a veterinary and sanitary inspection of the meat and slaughter products by veterinary service specialists;Do not purchase meat products from unauthorized retail outlets. The 8th  Meeting of Special Representatives and Envoys of the European Union and the Central Asian States on Afghanistan was held in Almaty.During the meeting, participants engaged in a substantive exchange of views on current developments in Afghanistan, their impact on regional security and stability, and prospects for expanding international cooperation aimed at supporting Afghanistan’s sustainable socio-economic development.The participants discussed issues related to strengthening regional integration, including the development of transport, logistics and transit corridors through Afghanistan. Such initiatives were recognized as an important factor in enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Central and South Asia, as well as in strengthening connectivity with the European Union.It was noted that the Republic of Kazakhstan consistently advocates for political and diplomatic approaches to addressing regional challenges, promoting good-neighbourly relations, trust and cooperation in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
