Complex cleaning in Turansky district: a step towards a clean and green Shymkent 07.08.2025
On August 7, 2025, a large-scale campaign for sanitary cleaning and improvement of the territory, organized by ShymkentSpetsKompleks LLP, was held in the Turansky district of Shymkent. The event became the next stage of systematic work to improve the environmental situation, create comfortable living conditions for citizens and form a modern urban environment. On this day, dozens of the company's employees and a significant amount of equipment worked in different parts of the district. Particular attention was paid to places where household waste accumulates, weeds grow, and areas requiring sanitary tree pruning. As part of the manual cleaning on Kozhanova, Zhanibekova, Pavlova, Moldagulova and Ismailova streets, 69 employees and 7 units of special equipment were involved. The workers removed garbage, cleared sidewalks and adjacent areas of fallen leaves, branches and dirt. To enhance the effect, a mobile team of 11 people was brought in, which went on night duty and continued working in those areas that could not be covered during the day. This allowed us to cover more streets and make the cleaning more effective. 20 specialists joined the landscaping work. They mowed lawns and cut grass on Dulati, Kazybek bi, Ryskulova and Kunayev streets. At other sites, employees loosened the soil near flowerbeds, reseeded the lawn, watered flower beds and carried out sanitary pruning of trees. These activities not only improve the appearance of the area, but also help strengthen the ecosystem, preventing overgrowth and maintaining the balance of green spaces. A separate block was the washing of bus stops. Using high-pressure equipment, 100 bus stop pavilions were cleaned, which significantly improved the sanitary condition of public spaces. The work was carried out on the central and secondary streets: Baiterekova, Adyrbekova, Baidibek bi, Ryskulova, Kunaeva, Zheltoksan, Tauke khan, Beibitshilik, Abay, Gagarina, Mangeldin, Kaldayakova, Zhandarbekova, Otyrar, Bekbolatova and Aishykty. The goal of the campaign is not just to clean the area, but also to create a sense of care for the city among residents, to form a culture of maintaining cleanliness and the green appearance of the area. The organizers note that the regularity of such events is of key importance. A single cleaning gives only a temporary result, while a systematic approach allows maintaining the achieved level of improvement. If we compare this campaign with similar events of previous years, we can notice several significant changes. Previously, cleaning works were often carried out selectively and were mainly one-time in nature, timed to coincide with holidays or seasonal events. In 2019-2021, attempts were already made in Shymkent to carry out mass cleaning of districts, but then the coverage of territories was smaller, and the participation of residents was limited. Today, the trend has changed: city authorities and public utilities are focusing on comprehensiveness and regularity. For example, as part of the republican environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan" in 2023, attention was paid mainly to coastal areas and places of mass recreation. At that time, it was possible to attract a large number of volunteers, but landscaping activities were limited. In the current format of the campaigns, as in the case of the Turansky district, landscaping work has become an integral part of the process, and washing bus stops and caring for small architectural forms are included in the mandatory list of tasks. Another difference is the use of modern technology and the distribution of workers into specialized teams. This made it possible to perform different types of work in parallel, which significantly accelerated the process and improved the quality. If earlier, for example, mowing the grass and cleaning up the garbage were carried out on different days, now all these operations are carried out within one day, which helps residents feel the results faster. The community of the district also responded positively. In social networks, city residents published photos of clean streets and well-kept lawns, noted that it had become more pleasant to use bus stops, and the air in the district felt fresher. Residents expressed hope that such events would be held not only in the central quarters, but also in remote microdistricts, where the problem of cleanliness is more acute. The long-term effect of such actions is expressed not only in improving the aesthetic appearance of the city, but also in creating favorable conditions for the health of the population. Clean streets reduce the risk of spreading infections, and green areas have a positive effect on the microclimate and psychological state of residents. Overall, the comprehensive cleaning in the Turansky district has become a good example of how, with proper organization and interaction of public utilities, significant results can be achieved in a short time. If this pace and approach are maintained, we can expect that in the coming years Shymkent will be among the cleanest and greenest cities in the country. Such attention to detail and the systematic nature of the events allow us to say that the city authorities are making a serious bet on the ecology and quality of the urban environment, and are not limited to temporary actions. And this instills confidence that Shymkent will develop as a modern, comfortable and environmentally safe metropolis.
Taxes for farmers reduced in Shymkent: an important step towards the development of agriculture 08.08.2025
A decision has been made in Shymkent that could radically change the working conditions for farmers, entrepreneurs, and all those involved in land cultivation and agricultural production. We are talking about a significant reduction in the tax burden on agricultural land. This step was the result of long negotiations and joint work of the city authorities, the Parliament, and relevant government agencies. The situation faced by local farmers has been going on for several years. After Shymkent was granted the status of a city of national significance in 2018, land plots used for agriculture were classified as lands of populated areas. This change in classification automatically led to a sharp increase in the tax rate. If the amounts were relatively affordable before, then after the reform the tax rate reached 91,700 tenge per hectare. For many farms, this became an unbearable burden, because large areas required proportionally larger payments. In 2022, the city maslikhat, recognizing the difficult situation of farmers, decided to reduce the rate by 50%. However, even after this, the tax level remained abnormally high compared to neighboring regions - about 45 times higher. This disproportion created obvious obstacles to the development of agriculture in the city. Many farmers were forced to reduce their sown areas, reduce their livestock, or even curtail their activities. Understanding that the situation required a systemic solution rather than temporary concessions, the city administration initiated work with the central authorities. Negotiations were held for several years, proposals and calculations were prepared proving the need to revise the tax policy. The arguments were obvious: excessive taxes undermine the economic basis of farms, reduce the investment attractiveness of agricultural production and negatively affect the food security of the region. These efforts culminated in amendments to the new Tax Code signed by the country's President. According to the adopted changes, starting from January 1, 2026, the tax on agricultural land within Shymkent will be reduced to a level comparable to neighboring regions. Now farmers will pay an average of only 1,013 tenge per hectare - this is 45 times less than the previous rate. This decision not only has a direct economic effect in the form of reduced costs, but also creates conditions for long-term growth of the industry. Farmers will be able to use the freed funds to modernize equipment, expand crop areas, introduce new technologies and improve product quality. This, in turn, can give impetus to the development of the processing industry, increase employment in rural areas and stabilize food prices. In addition, the reduction of the tax burden can be seen as a signal that the state is ready to listen and solve the problems of the agricultural sector. For a long time, farmers complained that their work was undervalued, and working conditions did not contribute to the expansion of production. Now, with a fairer tax system, there is a chance to return interest in agriculture and attract young specialists to the industry. It is worth noting that this tax reform is not just a technical adjustment, but a strategic step. In the context of population growth and increasing demand for quality food products, supporting local producers is becoming a matter of national importance. Agriculture not only ensures food security, but also forms the basis for sustainable regional development. Of course, the tax cut itself will not solve all the problems of farmers. There are still issues related to irrigation, access to preferential loans, modernization of infrastructure and the fight against drought. But the first and very important barrier that prevented farmers from developing has already been removed. Experience from previous years has shown that excessive tax burdens can literally paralyze economic activity. While farmers in neighboring regions could afford to experiment with new crops or invest in expanding production, in Shymkent many were barely making ends meet. Now, with the leveling of conditions, we can expect the emergence of competitive farms ready to work on par with their colleagues from other regions. This decision is also important for the city residents. Tax cuts for farmers indirectly affect all residents: more local products on the market, more stable prices, higher level of food independence. In addition, the development of agriculture around the city helps to preserve green areas, improves the ecological situation and creates jobs. Thus, the upcoming reduction of land taxes for Shymkent farmers from 2026 can be safely called a victory of common sense and the result of persistent work of both local authorities and state structures. This is an example of how consistent actions and dialogue between the authorities and citizens can lead to specific and tangible results. If this policy is supported and supplemented by other support measures, in the coming years Shymkent can become not only an industrial, but also a strong agricultural center. And this is a question not only of the economy, but also of the future food stability of the entire region.
Tax on agricultural land in Shymkent reduced by 45 times 08.08.2025
A very important news has come to Shymkent for farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture. From January 1, 2026, the tax on agricultural land in the city will be set at an average of 1,013 tenge per hectare. This is 45 times less than the previous amount. Such a change is not just a technical adjustment, it is a concrete step towards establishing justice for rural workers. Agriculture is the backbone of the city and country's economy. However, in recent years, farmers in Shymkent have faced significant difficulties due to the excessive tax burden. After Shymkent was granted the status of a city of republican significance in 2018, agricultural land plots were included in the category of settlements. As a result, land taxes, which were previously relatively low, have increased sharply. The tax rate of 91,700 tenge per hectare has become a heavy burden for many farmers. To address this issue, in 2022 the city council decided to reduce the tax rate by 50 percent. However, this reduction did not fundamentally change the situation. The tax rate was still 45 times higher than in neighboring regions. This difference reduced the competitiveness of agriculture and prevented local producers from effectively marketing their products. Agriculture is not only production, it is also an important factor in ensuring food security and the well-being of the population. That is why the city administration has kept this issue on its agenda for a long time. The city administration, working closely with the Parliament and a number of state bodies, has developed proposals for amendments to tax legislation. As a result, the new Tax Code signed by the Head of State provides for a significant reduction in the tax rate for agricultural land in the city of Shymkent. From the beginning of 2026, this rate will be at the level of 1,013 tenge per hectare. This change is expected to bring significant relief to farmers and reduce their production costs and increase their profitability. The economic impact of such a step is multifaceted. First, it will open the way to attracting investment in agriculture. Lower taxes will allow farmers to purchase new equipment, increase the size of their fields, and improve the quality of their products. Second, it will help stabilize prices in the food supply chain from rural to urban areas. Third, this step will contribute to maintaining social stability in rural areas and improving the well-being of the population. Historically, such tax changes have had a significant impact on the development of agriculture. For example, in the early 2000s, a reduction in agricultural taxes led to a revival of agriculture and livestock farming in the country. And some regional exemptions introduced in the 2010s allowed local farmers to increase production. This year's change in Shymkent is likely to have the same positive results. Past experience has shown that while tax cuts may not immediately lead to increased output, they can increase activity in the sector in the medium and long term. This is especially important for small and medium-sized farms, as they can free themselves from tax pressure and direct their funds directly to the development of production and infrastructure. Today, there are hundreds of entrepreneurs and thousands of private farms engaged in agriculture in Shymkent. Most of them grow vegetables, fruits, grains and are engaged in livestock farming. The reduction in the tax burden will have a positive effect on all these types of production. This decision will be a real help to farmers, especially in times of rising feed prices and fuel costs. Some experts believe that this change will also contribute to maintaining the economic balance between urban and rural areas. Since tax breaks in agriculture also affect the stability of food prices in the city. In addition, this measure may help preserve jobs in rural areas and encourage young people to stay in the countryside. In general, the 45-fold reduction in agricultural land tax in Shymkent is an important event not only for local farmers, but also for the entire city's economy. This decision is based on the principles of justice and paves the way for sustainable development of production. In the future, the city administration and relevant government agencies intend to continue to systematically address such issues that directly affect the daily lives of residents and the city's economy. This relief for farmers will be an important step that will give a new impetus to the development of agriculture and strengthen the food security and economic stability of Shymkent.
Large-scale prevention of farm animal diseases was carried out in Shymkent 07.08.2025
On August 7, 2025, in Shymkent, in the Abay district, on the territory of the rural settlements of Altyntobe and Yntymak, a major preventive action was held aimed at protecting farm animals from particularly dangerous infections. Local veterinary services carried out scheduled vaccination of cattle, small cattle, and horses, while simultaneously organizing the disinfection of farm buildings and pens. The agro-industrial sector plays a vital role in the economy of Shymkent and the entire Turkestan region. Animal diseases can cause serious damage: from death and reduced productivity to threats to food security and the emergence of diseases that can be transmitted to humans. This is why preventive measures are key. Vaccination and sanitation not only reduce the risk of disease outbreaks, but also maintain animal health, increase their productivity and ensure the stability of agricultural production. On this day, mobile groups of veterinarians began to go around the yards from early morning. They checked the condition of the animals, gave them the necessary vaccinations and treated the premises with disinfectants. Each individual received a preparation corresponding to its species and age. Modern safe preparations that destroy viruses, bacteria and fungi were used for treatment. Particular attention was paid to those places where there is the greatest probability of accumulation of pathogenic microorganisms, including feed storage areas. At the same time, veterinary specialists held talks with animal owners. They reminded them of the importance of cleanliness in pens and stalls, regular cleaning, quality feeding and timely detection of signs of disease. It was emphasized that caring for the health of livestock is a joint effort of veterinary services and the owners themselves, and the result is achieved only with full cooperation and compliance with all recommendations. The campaign has become an example of how the approach to prevention has changed in recent years. If earlier such events were often held centrally at specially designated points where the animal had to be brought, now veterinary teams go to each yard, which significantly increases coverage. This is especially important for remote or small farms, whose owners for various reasons could not always participate in previous vaccination formats. Now the barrier in the form of distance and limited time has been practically eliminated. Unlike previous years, the population was informed in advance and actively. Announcements in local media, posts on social networks, information through rural akimats and elders were used. This allowed all livestock owners to be warned in time and animals to be prepared for inspection and treatment. In addition, the necessary vaccine stock was ensured to avoid a situation where there was a shortage of drugs. The positive results of such campaigns are obvious. Where vaccination and disinfection are carried out regularly, the incidence of livestock diseases is significantly lower and the economic indicators of farms are higher. Treatment costs are reduced, milk yield increases, meat quality improves, and in general farms operate more stably. For the region, this means that food security is strengthened, and residents can count on high-quality livestock products. At the same time, problems remain. In some farms, sanitary conditions still leave much to be desired. Sometimes the reason is the lack of knowledge or time on the part of the owners, and sometimes limited financial resources. There are difficulties in delivering specialists and equipment to the most remote points. Therefore, veterinary services consider it necessary to strengthen educational work, and local authorities - to expand support for mobile teams so that coverage is maximum. Experts are confident that such events should be carried out not only as part of seasonal plans, but also systematically, especially during periods of increased risk of infections. It is important to draw up schedules in advance taking into account the characteristics of specific territories, expand the fleet of equipment for mobile services, and develop a system of reserve stocks of vaccines and disinfectants. Another important area is the training of animal owners: the higher their awareness, the lower the risk of epizootics and the more effective any preventive measures. The campaign held in Altyntobe and Yntymak showed that with the coordinated work of veterinarians, authorities and rural residents, a significant effect can be achieved. The level of organization of the event, its coverage and preliminary preparation were at a high level, which distinguishes it from many similar campaigns of previous years. If such practices are continued, Shymkent will be able not only to reduce the risks of diseases among animals, but also to strengthen its reputation as a region with a high level of veterinary safety and developed agriculture.
Scheduled vaccination and disinfection measures for farm animals were carried out in Shymkent 07.08.2025
On August 7, 2025, in the settlements of Altyntobe and Yntymak, Abay district of Shymkent city, large-scale veterinary and preventive measures were organized to prevent highly dangerous infectious diseases of agricultural animals. During the event, veterinarians systematically vaccinated cattle, small livestock and horses, and disinfected stables. This step was taken to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and maintain the general health of livestock. Farm animals are an important part of the food security and economic stability of the region. Therefore, maintaining their health is a common task not only of the veterinary service, but also of the entire society. The spread of infectious diseases not only reduces livestock productivity, but in some cases also poses a threat to human health. For this reason, planned vaccination and disinfection are essential for the sustainable development of rural communities. This time, the event was organized on a large scale and was held with the participation of villagers. Animal owners were notified in advance, the date and place of vaccination were specified. Veterinary specialists examined each animal, vaccinated it with the necessary vaccine, and treated the stables with special solutions. The veterinary service worked through special mobile teams. They traveled through the settlements, visiting each household individually. Cattle, small livestock and horses were vaccinated against various diseases. In addition, the internal and external surfaces of livestock barns and outbuildings were treated with biocidal solutions. This is aimed at destroying microbes and viruses and reducing the risk of infection. Specialists strictly observed safety rules during disinfection and provided advice to villagers on maintaining the barns, ensuring cleanliness, and taking preventive measures. During the event, livestock owners were explained the importance of constantly monitoring the condition of their animals. It was said that vaccination alone is not enough to prevent infectious diseases; it is also necessary to properly organize the feeding regimen, care, and living conditions of livestock. According to veterinary specialists, this will be effective only through the joint work of livestock owners and specialists. In previous years, such vaccination and disinfection measures were often carried out seasonally and for a short period of time. Due to limited information efforts, some livestock owners were left out of the measures. In recent years, significant progress has been made in this direction: Events are held frequently and systematically; Mobile groups cover all small villages and settlements; Social media, district akimat announcements, and local activists are widely used to disseminate information; The vaccine stockpile is being prepared in advance and the delivery process is underway. Previously, disinfection work was carried out mainly on large farms, but now small individual barns are also fully covered. This will significantly contribute to reducing the spread of the disease within the village. The effectiveness of planned preventive measures is in preventing the outbreak of infectious diseases. Timely vaccination and disinfection protect villagers and livestock owners from financial losses, and the region from epizootic threats. Such measures will reduce disease incidence, increase overall livestock productivity and viability, and improve the quality of agricultural products. Experts noted the need to hold such events regularly and strengthen the public relations system. In the future: Strengthening awareness - using SMS messages, social networks, and local media to warn livestock owners in advance; Increase mobile teams to cover all farms in remote villages; Stabilize vaccine stocks — prevent seasonal shortages; Improving sanitary culture - introducing a system of regular training and consulting for livestock owners. The vaccination and disinfection event held on August 7 is an important step for the Abay district of Shymkent. This will not only preserve the health of livestock, but also contribute to the economic stability of the region. Compared to previous years, there has been an increase in the level of organization, information and coverage. If such initiatives are continued systematically, the risk of infectious diseases will significantly decrease and will give impetus to the development of the agricultural sector.
Ecological unity: a large-scale clean-up took place in the Abay district of Shymkent 02.08.2025
On August 2, 2025, a large-scale citywide clean-up day was held in the Abay district of Shymkent as part of the republican campaign "Clean Kazakhstan". One of the key areas for the events was the coastal strip of the Badam River, where the main efforts to clean up garbage and improve the natural space were concentrated. The initiative brought together more than 300 people – employees of public utilities, representatives of the akimat, employees of various institutions, volunteers, as well as concerned citizens united for a common goal – to clean and tidy up green areas. Over 30 units of special equipment were involved in the cleanup: dump trucks, front-end loaders, watering and cleaning machines, as well as trailers for waste removal. The main focus of the day was cleaning the Badam River bank from accumulated household and natural waste. During the summer months, a large amount of waste left by vacationers traditionally accumulates here. In addition to cleaning, work was carried out to mow the grass, trim dry branches and bushes, and level the paths along the river. The distinctive feature of this clean-up day was its large-scale and comprehensive implementation. If earlier similar events were held pointwise — covering individual areas or streets — this time the coverage was much wider. All microdistricts and residential areas of the Abay district took part in the clean-up. The work was carried out not only on the embankment, but also in the courtyards of apartment buildings, near children's and sports grounds, on alleys and near public transport stops. The clean-up day was accompanied by explanatory work among the population. Residents were reminded of their responsibility for the state of the environment, urged to keep clean and properly dispose of waste. As part of the event, activists distributed leaflets on waste sorting, talked about the harm of plastic waste and the need to take care of nature. Schoolchildren also took part - many came with their parents. Small interactive lessons on ecology were held for children: how to conserve water, why trees should be protected, why it is important to clean up after yourself. These elements of educational work became an important addition to the physical part of the clean-up day. It is worth noting that the idea of holding such events is not new for Shymkent. For example, last year, in the summer of 2024, clean-up days were also held in the same district. However, in terms of scale and involvement, the current event surpassed the previous ones. In 2024, as a rule, the events were local in nature, the number of participants was about 150 people, and the equipment was used in limited quantities. This time, city services and the district administration approached the matter with redoubled energy. The positive experience of the previous year was taken into account when organizing this event. One of the key lessons was the understanding that simple cleaning is only a temporary solution. Therefore, in 2025, the emphasis is on the formation of a sustainable environmental culture among the population. That is why teachers, youth activists, and representatives of non-governmental organizations took part in the preparation and implementation of the campaign. As the Akimat of the Abay District emphasizes, clean-up days should not be perceived as isolated events. The authorities plan to hold them regularly, involving more and more residents. It is important not only to remove garbage, but also to form a responsible attitude towards the surrounding space in people, to cultivate environmental awareness, starting from a very young age. Thanks to the efforts of the participants, the banks of Badam became noticeably cleaner. Several tons of garbage were collected, including glass bottles, plastic packaging, branches, leaves and other waste. Removal was carried out centrally, with subsequent sorting and recycling of suitable materials. At the end of the event, the district akim thanked everyone who took part, noting that only through joint efforts can real and long-term results be achieved in environmental protection. It was also announced that similar clean-up days would be held in other districts of the city in the coming weeks. Special attention will be paid to river and park areas, as they are the ones that suffer the most from people's irresponsible attitude. In parallel with this, it is planned to install additional urns, signs calling for cleanliness, and organize raids to identify unauthorized dumps. Thus, the last clean-up day in the Abay district was not just a cleaning event. It turned into a symbol of the unification of residents for the sake of the common good. People from different spheres, different ages and professions worked side by side, realizing that a clean city is not only the task of public services, but also the responsibility of each of us. It is precisely this kind of cohesion and civic activity that will guarantee that Shymkent will become an increasingly comfortable, environmentally friendly and pleasant city to live in.
CITY-WIDE SATURDAY IN ABAI DISTRICT: A STEP TOWARDS ECOLOGICAL CULTURE 02.08.2025
On August 2, 2025, another city-wide clean-up was held in the Abay district of Shymkent as part of the republican environmental campaign "Clean Kazakhstan". The event was organized in the Igilik residential area, and extensive work was carried out to clean the banks of the Badam River from household waste and garbage. This campaign is in the public eye as one of the important initiatives aimed at improving the environmental situation in the city. The Abai district akimat, district municipal institutions, city administrations, volunteer groups and local residents actively participated in the clean-up. A total of more than 300 people were mobilized, and more than 30 special equipment was used - dump trucks, loaders, water sprinklers, trucks, etc. At the initiative of the Abai district akim, this clean-up is not only aimed at cleaning, but also at raising the environmental awareness of residents. The main goal of the Saturday held on this day was to form an ecological culture among the city's residents, to encourage them to be careful about cleanliness, and to convey the importance of showing compassion for the environment. The Badam River is an important natural object where residents of the district walk daily, where children play, and where they have become a place of rest. Therefore, the sanitary condition of its banks directly affects the appearance of the city and the quality of life of residents. During the weekend, overgrown reeds on the riverbank were cut and cleared, trees and bushes along the banks were trimmed, and garbage was transported using special equipment. In addition, fences were installed in some dangerous areas and pedestrian lanes were cleared. This measure also helped to increase the safety of residents. This event was not limited to the Igilik residential area, but continued in other microdistricts and residential areas of the Abay district, and large-scale ecological cleaning work was carried out. Thus, work was carried out throughout the district to maintain natural areas, put parks and public places in order. In particular, the activity and solidarity of residents served as the basis for the high level of the Sabbath. Past experience is the basis for new results Such clean-ups have been organized before. For example, in the summer of last year, in July 2024, several clean-ups were held in the Abay district. But then the scale was quite small: only a small amount of equipment and about 100-150 people were involved in the work. The peculiarity of this year's campaign is the increase in the number of participants, increased technical content, and a clear priority given to cleaning the riverbank. In addition, elements of environmental education were also included - during the clean-up, small eco-lessons for children were held, and information brochures on household waste sorting were distributed. Another difference is that this year's cleaning efforts were not limited to just collecting garbage, but special attention was paid to sanitary and hygienic safety. Dangerous areas near the water on the banks of the Badam River were inspected in conjunction with the city's emergency services, and additional protective equipment was installed where necessary. This is a concrete measure taken for the safety of city residents. Residents are speaking out Residents of the district welcomed the Saturday and asked for such initiatives to be organized more often. Many residents noted that they came voluntarily, and that contributing to the cleanliness of the city and nature is the duty of every citizen. Families with children, youth organizations, and members of the veterans' council worked together. It is especially noticeable that the culture of environmental responsibility and respect for nature is growing among young people. In addition to residents, local entrepreneurs also participated in the Sabbath. They contributed with equipment, gloves, and tools. Thus, government agencies and the private sector, community activists, and ordinary residents together did a good deed for the city. Future plans According to the Abai district akimat, such ecological Saturdays will be held regularly every month until the end of the year. In addition, similar events are planned to be held in other districts of the city. The main thing is to establish environmental order in the city, educate residents to treat nature responsibly, and carry out specific work to preserve the city's ecosystem. These initiatives are also in line with national programs such as "Green Kazakhstan" and "Clean Kazakhstan" undertaken in Kazakhstan. This is because environmental security is one of the issues that should be considered on an equal footing with national security. Such activities carried out at the local level are the first steps towards achieving this goal. Conclusion The city-wide Sabbath in Abay district is a true example of the intersection of ecology and public culture. It is important to understand through such events that protecting nature is the duty of every citizen, not just government agencies. Cleanliness is a mirror of the country. And preserving it is a common duty for all of us.
Caring for Shymkent's green spaces: how trees are being tidied up in the Turansky district 06.08.2025
On August 6, work on sanitary and formative pruning of trees in the Turan district of Shymkent began. This event is carried out by the Turan municipal state institution and is aimed at ensuring safety, maintaining cleanliness, and improving the aesthetic appearance of the city. Such work is an important element in the care of urban green infrastructure, which plays a key role in creating a comfortable urban environment and improving air quality. Since the beginning of August, weather conditions have contributed to the beginning of the active phase of seasonal activities for the care of green spaces. In areas located along roads, near educational institutions, squares and residential areas, specialists have begun sanitary pruning, removing dry, damaged and hazardous branches, as well as giving the crowns a neat and safe shape. The main goals of these works are to ensure free growth of trees, remove potentially dangerous areas, reduce the risk of branches falling during windy weather, and clear sidewalks and roadways of overhanging thickets. In addition, specialists clear tree trunks of debris, loosen the soil, and mow weeds, thereby improving oxygen access to the root system of plants. According to city authorities, about 30 workers and more than 10 units of special equipment, including aerial platforms, trucks and crushing machines, were involved in the first days of sanitary pruning alone. The work continues on schedule and covers both central streets and less busy areas of the district. The main focus is on trees that pose a threat to passers-by, cars and utility lines. It is important to note that such events are not a one-time event, but part of a planned program for the improvement and landscaping of Shymkent in 2025. According to representatives of the Department of Ecology and Urban Environment, it is planned not only to regularly trim trees, but also to replace hazardous and aging plants with new ones that are resistant to drought and urban conditions. In addition, planting ornamental shrubs and additional landscaping of empty areas is envisaged. Similar events have been held in previous years, but the distinctive feature of the current campaign is its systematic nature and the involvement of several municipal services at the same time. For example, in 2023, sanitary pruning was more often carried out in response to complaints from citizens or in connection with emergency situations - fallen trees after a storm. This year, the work is planned in advance and coordinated taking into account weather conditions and seasonal features. Residents of the Turansky District generally responded positively to the events. Many noted that the streets became lighter, safer and more visually attractive. This is especially important for children and the elderly who regularly walk near courtyards and social facilities. In addition, sanitary pruning of trees contributes to better street lighting in the evening, which reduces the likelihood of offenses and increases the level of comfort. Some activists and eco-volunteers expressed their willingness to participate in subsequent stages of the work. Initiative residents suggested organizing information stands about the importance of proper tree care, as well as placing signs with the names of trees and planting years to increase environmental literacy of the population. It should also be noted that every year in Shymkent there is a growing understanding of the importance of caring for nature. The city authorities are increasingly including environmental issues and landscaping in their agenda, and the city residents are including them in their daily lives. Against the backdrop of climate change and growing urbanization, such measures are becoming especially relevant. The city administration plans to continue greening the territory of the Turansky district in the fall: more than 500 new trees will be planted along avenues, alleys and schoolyards. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of locally adapted species such as maple, linden, ash-leaved plane and juniper. Thus, the sanitary pruning of trees, which started on August 6, became an important step in the development of an ecologically sustainable and aesthetically attractive urban environment. The Turansky district serves as an example of how a comprehensive approach, attention to detail and the participation of the local community can bring real positive changes to the life of the city. Systematic care of green spaces is not only a concern for beauty, but also an investment in the health of future generations.
Sanitary felling of trees in Shymkent: a new stage of ecological culture 06.08.2025
On August 6, 2025, the Turan municipal state institution in Shymkent began felling trees for the purpose of sanitary and restoration of green areas in the city. This event is planned to protect the environment, maintain the balance and improve the quality of the urban environment. The joint work of the district akimat and municipal institutions will contribute to the formation of Shymkent as a green city in the future. Tree felling operations are carried out in the area of the district's most popular alleys and parks, near schools and kindergartens. Employees first identify bushes with strong knots, diseased bushes or bushes that are overhanging the road. Each tree is thoroughly inspected and a decision is made as to whether it needs to be cut down or pruned and restored. The main areas of current work are: • Creating conditions for proper tree growth and regulating natural winds; • Maintain the safety of residents by eliminating dangerous nightshade shrubs; • Improve the beauty of the city by preserving aesthetically pleasing trees that do not affect well-being. During the first event on August 6, municipal specialists inspected 50-60 trees. More than 20 young trees were pruned for sanitary purposes or parts of the canopy were trimmed. The young leaf gaps were opened between the bushes to allow air to pass through, and the green layer was replenished. Then, the remaining trees were carefully restored and soil cultivation was carried out. In addition, grass and weeds were actively mowed, and mud puddles were reduced on the side of the road. Special attention was paid to cleanliness at bus stops and public places inside the school, and pedestrian paths were cleaned. This initiative is significantly different from similar work in previous years. In 2023, tree felling was limited to emergency situations — for example, only trees that fell during a storm were removed. And planned work of ecological and social importance, such as tree restoration, was not carried out much. This was due to a lack of professional capacity or budget. In 2024, the city underwent a large-scale landscaping project. Green flags were planted, flower beds were established. However, tree pruning was carried out only in unusual cases - to remove broken branches and diseased trees. At that time, a culture of tree protection had not yet been formed among the city's residents and specialists. And the new program, launched in 2025, provides a mechanism for regularly scheduled pruning and shaping. This is not just a sanitary measure, but a key factor in ecological growth. The difference from last year is not just pruning, but replanting and leaving it for posterity. Programs are also being introduced to restore greenery left after construction. This year, the plan includes planting trees to increase soil fertility. Although each node is cut down, certain species and varieties will be replanted in its place: young coniferous seedlings and ornamental shrubs. Such a mechanism will allow for the development of the city's green infrastructure. The public reaction has been positive. Residents have supported the initiative, and some have actively participated in the joint care of trees near their yards. Eco-active youth and volunteers have held a Saturday, established contacts, and paid attention to discipline. This process has become part of raising public awareness, not just technical. The city's Department of Ecology announced that, taking into account the results of the weekend, the city will continue to take care of the greenery in the coming months. Regular work will be carried out every week to clean up dry branches and weeds that have grown spontaneously. The sanitary felling of trees is not completed in one day. This is a long-term work - to keep the city green, prevent climate change, and create a comfortable environment for residents. This initiative is also part of a larger educational effort aimed at educating residents about environmental responsibility. In conclusion, the sanitary felling of trees that began on August 6 is a clear demonstration of careful management of the city's nature, environmental protection, and raising public awareness. This initiative in the Turan district is a strong example of cooperation for a common goal. If such work continues systematically and professionally, Shymkent will further strengthen its green city status.
Greenhouse of rare plants: how Shymkent takes care of its green heritage 01.08.2025
In early August 2025, large-scale work began in Shymkent on the territory of the Asanbay Askarov Arboretum to care for a unique area — the Greenhouse (Tukymbak), which occupies an area of 1.5 hectares. This area is not just part of the park — it is an open-air scientific and botanical laboratory where rare and ornamental plant species are grown, adapted, and preserved. Coniferous and deciduous trees, rare species brought from other climate zones, as well as plants used in landscape design grow here. Many of them undergo the process of acclimatization - this means that they are adapted to local natural conditions in order to be subsequently planted in other areas of the city or used for scientific research. Today, seasonal agricultural activities are carried out on the site: loosening the soil, fertilizing, watering, sanitary pruning of shrubs, mowing the grass. Each plant, whether a young seedling or an adult tree, receives individual care. Particular attention is paid to varieties that require increased attention due to their capriciousness to humidity, soil or temperature fluctuations. A distinctive feature of this season was the active introduction of modern agricultural technologies. The irrigation system was modernized on the territory of the greenhouse - now drip irrigation is functioning here, which allows saving water and at the same time maintaining stable soil moisture. Given the climatic features of the south of Kazakhstan, where summer is often accompanied by prolonged heat, this innovation became vital for preserving the collection. Also, specialized specialists are involved in the work in the greenhouse - agronomists and landscape designers, who constantly consult on care issues and monitor the condition of the plants. It is interesting that, within the framework of cooperation with scientific institutions from Almaty and Taraz, students and postgraduates of biological faculties are sent here to conduct practical classes and field research. Such attention to plant diversity is not accidental. The arboretum, founded in 1979, was originally conceived as not only a recreation area, but also an educational, enlightening and research facility. However, for many years, many areas of the park did not receive proper care. Only in the last 4-5 years has a gradual restoration begun - the alleys were put in order, irrigation systems were installed, and plant records were resumed. If we compare the current work with previous years, significant changes are obvious. For example, in 2018, the Greenhouse consisted of just a few beds with seedlings of ornamental trees and shrubs that were planted on the city's alleys. Outdated methods were used in care - watering from hoses, manual pruning. There was no plant inventory database, no systematic scientific approach. Today, the Greenhouse is a complete ecosystem. It catalogues all species, records growth dynamics, determines flowering periods and adaptation features. Rare specimens such as Japanese sakura, Himalayan pine and rock juniper are of particular pride. These trees are not typical for the climate of Southern Kazakhstan, but with the right approach they began to take root and develop. The arboretum administration also places a bet on environmental education. It is planned to open a small visitor center, where lectures, master classes and excursions for schoolchildren and students will be held. Thus, Teplitsa will become not only a scientific platform, but also a center for environmental education. It is worth noting that interest in the project is growing not only among scientists. More and more city residents are taking part in volunteer campaigns, helping to care for green spaces, participating in clean-up days and collecting seeds. Such activity indicates the formation of a new level of environmental awareness in society - an understanding that clean air and shade from trees depend on everyone's efforts. It is planned that by 2026 the territory of the Greenhouse will be expanded, and its capabilities as a scientific base will be strengthened. As part of the project development, plans are being developed for the exchange of seed material with botanical gardens in Central Asia and Europe. Thus, the Shymkent Arboretum can become an important center for international cooperation in the field of biodiversity protection. In conclusion, we can say that the development of the Greenhouse in Shymkent is an example of a competent synthesis of science, ecology and urbanism. This project not only improves the appearance of the city, but also helps to preserve the natural wealth of the region, to raise a new generation of citizens who respect and protect the environment. The future of green Shymkent begins right here - with each tree grown in the shade of care and science.
Shymkent Arboretum: a way to preserve rare plants and create a green future 01.08.2025
In early August 2025, large-scale agrotechnical work began in a special territory of the Asanbai Askarov Arboretum in Shymkent - Tukhimbak . The total area of this territory is 1.5 hectares and is specially allocated for scientific research purposes. Important botanical work is being carried out here to improve the ecology of the city, increase greenery, and preserve rare plants. The nursery is a unique botanical area in the arboretum. It grows coniferous, deciduous, ornamental, and introduced plants, that is, rare plants brought from other climatic zones and adapted to the local environment. This area is aimed at scientific research, enriching the local flora, and increasing the biodiversity of the city's nature. Currently, agrotechnical work is actively being carried out in the nursery, such as loosening the soil, removing weeds, watering and tying seedlings. Each tree and shrub is treated with special care, creating favorable conditions for their growth and development. This is a concrete step towards achieving long-term ecological results. This year's special feature is scientifically based agricultural techniques. The main feature of the 2025 campaign is the reliance on experimental scientific methods. In addition to local specialists, agronomists and botanists are invited from the cities of Almaty, Turkestan and Taraz, and the quality of work is being improved through the exchange of experience. New types of plants are being studied and their adaptation to the local climate is being considered. In addition, the irrigation system has been modernized and drip irrigation has been introduced. This, in turn, will help save water, especially on hot summer days, preventing plants from burning. The historical role of the seed The arboretum was first established in the 1990s. Even then, work was underway to introduce plants to the local environment. However, due to a lack of funds and specialists, many initiatives were abandoned. In the past five years, the attitude towards the arboretum has changed radically, and the arboretum has been revived. Now this territory has risen to a new level and is being re-considered as a scientific research object. For example, in 2021, only about 20 species were grown here, but now their number has exceeded 60. Among them, Lebanese cedar, Korean pine, and Japanese sakura, which are considered difficult to adapt to the climate, have successfully grown and bloomed. This is the result of the professional skills and agrotechnical methods of local specialists. Future plans The work in the arboretum does not end there. By 2026, the administration of the arboretum plans to expand the territory by another 0.5 hectares. In addition, a scientific and educational center will be opened, and excursions and practical classes for schoolchildren and students will be organized. This initiative will contribute to the formation of an ecological culture of young people and their love for nature. Comparison with the past: differences and achievements Compared to previous years, this year's work in the nursery is more systematic and scientifically based. For example, in 2019, some landscaping work was also carried out, but the activities at that time were seasonal in nature, lacking scientific consistency and regular maintenance. In addition, the irrigation system was carried out manually or in the old way, which required a lot of time and resources. Today, these works are automated and are carried out in economical and efficient ways. Another important difference is the active involvement of society. Today, volunteer organizations and environmental activists are actively involved in the care of the nursery. They organize Sabbaths and help maintain the trees. Previously, such public participation was rare. Social responsibility and environmental culture The arboretum is not just a part of the arboretum, it is a center of ecological culture. Residents and guests of the city not only walk here, but also learn new information about plants and understand the importance of nature protection. The Shymkent city administration also aims to form a common environmental responsibility among residents through such initiatives. The Tukhimbak in the Asanbay Askarov Arboretum is a reflection of respect for nature, scientific research, and faith in the future. Every tree growing here is a sure sign of a step towards a green city. Projects like Tukhimbak play a special role in improving the ecological situation of Shymkent and passing on natural wealth to future generations. There is confidence that in the future, such green initiatives will expand to other districts of the city and become an example for all regions of the country.
Systematic monitoring of drinking fountains in Al Farabiyyah region 06.08.2025
In the city of Shymkent, systematic work is being carried out to provide the population with clean drinking water. In particular, 12 drinking water fountains have been installed in the Al-Farabi district, providing residents with free and accessible water right in public places. These facilities have become an integral part of the city's infrastructure, especially in hot climates, when access to quality water is not only a matter of convenience, but also health. The fountains are located in the busiest areas of the district: near public transport stops, on alleys, near markets and schools. Thanks to this, every resident, be it a schoolchild, a pensioner or just a passerby, can use water without buying it in bottles. In the context of rising prices and the need to save, such solutions are especially in demand. Water purification and sanitary maintenance of these devices are under constant control of district public utilities. According to the local administration, sanitary treatment is carried out every second day, the pressure and flow of water are checked, as well as the state of filtration. In addition, the services monitor that no foreign substances or dust get into the system, which is especially important in windy weather. An important aspect is the technical condition of the fountains. All of them are connected to the centralized water supply system, and are equipped with special filters for additional cleaning. According to the schedule, specialists inspect the technical part, regulate the pressure and carry out disinfection. If failures in the system are detected, they are eliminated within a few hours. The initiative to install such devices was first implemented in the district in 2023. The first three fountains became a kind of experiment. Questions arose at the time: would it be safe, how good would the water be, who would service the equipment. However, residents quickly appreciated the innovation, and positive feedback became an incentive to expand the network. Last year, compared to this year, the system of care for such objects was less organized: in some places, fountains failed due to blockages or untimely cleaning. This year, the approach was revised - now utility services work according to clear regulations, and each fountain has a responsible employee. If necessary, volunteers and activists are involved in the work, who help clean the adjacent territory. Regular laboratory tests are conducted to control the quality of water. The results of the latest measurements showed that the water fully complies with sanitary standards. The chlorination level does not exceed the permissible values, microbiological indicators are normal. This is especially important, since we are talking about water that is consumed in the hot season directly on the street. The Al-Farabi District Administration is asking residents to take good care of city property. In recent months, there have been cases of vandalism, with some fountains damaged. This not only increases the cost of their restoration, but also temporarily deprives residents of access to an important resource. In this regard, it is also planned to conduct explanatory events among young people and students aimed at cultivating a culture of public behavior. It is worth noting that the practice of installing drinking fountains is already used in other cities of Kazakhstan, but it is in Shymkent that it has received the greatest development. Unlike previously implemented projects, here special attention is paid not only to installation, but also to further maintenance. This became the determining factor of success. Compared to similar initiatives implemented in 2022–2023 in other districts of Shymkent, it can be noted that at first, the main focus was only on the appearance of the devices. However, over time, it became obvious that without proper control over water quality, regular maintenance, and interaction with the population, such facilities lose their effectiveness. Al-Farabi district took these mistakes into account and developed a more balanced approach. The administration plans to expand the network of fountains. By the end of this year, it is planned to install 6 more devices, including in new residential areas, where the issue of water supply is especially acute. The possibility of installing sensor models with automatic drainage is also being considered, which will avoid stagnant water and improve the hygiene of use. Thus, the installation and maintenance of drinking fountains becomes part of a broader policy of the city administration to improve the quality of life and maintain public health. It is important that such decisions are not limited to individual districts, but become part of the city program at the level of the whole of Shymkent. The initiative, aimed at caring for city residents, was highly appreciated by residents who use the new infrastructure every day. This is an example of how even simple and understandable measures, if properly implemented and monitored, can significantly improve people's comfort and well-being.
Providing quality drinking water to city residents — systematic monitoring of fountains in the Al-Farabi district 06.08.2025
In the Al-Farabi district of Shymkent, drinking fountains installed at 12 locations today provide residents with clean and free water. These devices are located in public places - parks, bus stops, markets and pedestrian areas. Such a decision not only provides hundreds of people with the opportunity to drink water every day, but is also an important initiative aimed at improving the sanitary situation in the city as a whole. The district akimat and municipal government agencies monitor the sanitary cleanliness of fountains: special technical maintenance is performed daily, water channels are inspected, and water quality is measured hourly. The three fountains, first installed as a small pilot project in 2023, caused heated debate: some residents and sanitation experts questioned the reliability of the water quality. During that period, several technical defects or low water pressure were recorded. However, local authorities took these criticisms into account and tightened technical standards: water filtration devices were upgraded and brought into line with sanitary standards. A concrete step was taken to turn the fragile initiative into a sustainable and large-scale operation. In 2024, the number of fountains increased to eight and the service system was improved. The chemical and microbiological analysis of water was moved from twice a week to daily. Public servants and volunteers also played an active role in ensuring the cleanliness of the area around the fountains, saying that everyone should be an example to others. In another similar city, Taraz, fountains installed in the initial projects often had technical problems and pollution. In the Al-Farabi district, systematic monitoring and maintenance by mobile teams will be strengthened by 2025. A QR code will be placed in front of each fountain, and residents can use it to check the quality of the water online. Several residents have uploaded photos of the fountains and made requests such as “warming up the water” or “carrying out special cleaning.” Most importantly, a special schedule was established to constantly monitor the sanitary condition of the fountains: at least one sanitary inspection per day, two water quality measurements, and water level indicators by special personnel who draw water. These measures helped restore public confidence. Another social significance of installing drinking water fountains is socio-economic accessibility. Access to free clean water is a great help for low-income families and citizens who spend a lot of time on the street. Those who previously had to buy water now get water from fountains, reducing their expenses. To increase respect for public property, the akimat called on residents to use fountains carefully. People are urged not to damage the devices and not to throw away unpurchased waste in order to contribute to leaving a clean environment for the next generation. In this regard, environmental education work has been intensified among students, and classes and drawing competitions on the theme "A clean fountain is your right" have been announced in schools. This year, during the testing of more than 200 drinking water samples for the 12 mentioned fountains, it was determined that the chlorine content did not exceed the regulatory limits. Prior to this result, the testing was carried out more accurately and more frequently. In addition, an analysis of local microflora was carried out with specific indicators. While last year several fountains were temporarily closed due to water quality issues, this year's robust technical monitoring system means that such risks are virtually non-existent. If a defect occurs, efforts are made to correct it within 2 hours. For comparison, other districts often hold clean-up drives and communal services, but regular monitoring of drinking fountains is an exception. This is an effective combination of digital and social efforts and legal obligations aimed at protecting the health of residents. Such projects are under the jurisdiction of the city akim - specific measures taken to preserve the ecology, improve the environment and infrastructure. The model of the Karatau district will be expanded throughout the city of Shymkent, and it is planned to increase the number of water fountains and introduce a system of permanent access in other districts. In conclusion, the active period of the fountain's operation, which began on August 2, 2025, brought tangible benefits to residents. Residents not only gained access to clean drinking water, but also became involved in social responsibility and public culture. This event set an important example in the development of environmental culture and the careful use of water resources. May such work continue systematically in the future!
Cleanliness and care: how a large-scale clean-up day was held in the Karatau district of Shymkent 31.07.2025
On July 31, 2025, a large-scale clean-up day was held in the Karatau district of Shymkent, organized by the department for the development of a comfortable urban environment together with the contractor Zhasyl-Zher Shymkent LLP. The action covered the central streets of the district, including Nazarbayev Avenue, Mustafa Shokai, Nazarbekov and Argynbekov streets. About 200 workers took part in the event, who were distributed among key areas, 50 people in each zone. To ensure effective work, about 25 units of specialized equipment were involved, including garbage trucks, tractors, watering machines and equipment for cleaning ditches. During the clean-up day, work was carried out to clean sidewalks, house plots, green areas, as well as cutting down dry trees and mowing weeds. Particular attention was paid to cleaning up garbage from roadsides and roadside strips. Part of the effort was directed at cleaning irrigation canals, which is especially important in the summer, when water drainage plays an important role in maintaining urban infrastructure. The purpose of the event was not only to restore order, but also to form environmental awareness among the population. Representatives of the contracting organization note that such actions are necessary to remind citizens of their shared responsibility for the cleanliness and improvement of their hometown. Not only employees of public utilities, but also ordinary residents of the district took part in the cleanup, which became an important signal of the awakening of civil initiative. A distinctive feature of this campaign was high-quality technical support. The availability of modern equipment allowed us to speed up the process and cover large areas in a short time. In the past, such events were often limited to manual cleaning and small forces, which reduced efficiency and coverage. Now the approach has become more systematic and thoughtful: routes are developed in advance, lists of areas are compiled, working groups are selected and the necessary equipment is determined. Compared to similar events held in 2023 and 2024, there is an increase in coordination and scale. Previously, clean-up days were held sporadically and mainly covered narrow areas or courtyards. Today, the format has expanded to a full-fledged cleaning of city streets with the involvement of not only municipal services, but also representatives of the public. This indicates the development of a culture of collective responsibility and increased interaction between citizens and authorities. During the work, special attention was paid to cleaning those areas where garbage accumulates especially quickly - these are, as a rule, places along pedestrian roads, bus stops and spontaneous parking lots. Such places not only spoil the appearance of the area, but also create inconvenience for pedestrians and drivers. Cleaning these areas requires constant attention, and holding regular clean-up days is an effective way to solve the problem. Residents of the area gave a positive assessment of the work carried out. Many of them came out of their homes to help with the cleaning, tidy up their yards, remove trash and paint curbs. It is especially nice to see how entire families take part in such events. Children, watching their parents, learn to take care of the environment, which forms useful habits for the future. According to the organizers, such events will continue to be held on a regular basis. In the future, it is planned to expand the geography of cleanups, attract more schoolchildren, students, volunteers and business representatives. Proposals for holding thematic cleanups with the participation of art groups, sports clubs and initiative groups of residents are also being considered. The clean-up day on August 2 in Karatau district became one of the examples of successful implementation of the city strategy of cleanliness and order. In one day, it was possible to restore order on kilometers of city streets, improve the appearance of the district, and most importantly — strengthen the sense of unity among its residents. People, working together for one common cause, begin to perceive the city space differently — as part of their own home, which needs to be taken care of. The results of the event clearly demonstrate that with proper organization, participation of concerned citizens and support from city authorities, significant results can be achieved. Cleanliness, improvement and comfort in the city do not arise by themselves - they are the result of targeted work and joint efforts of thousands of people. Shymkent is gradually strengthening its status as a city where it is comfortable to live. And each such action is a step forward towards creating a greener, cleaner and more beautiful city. It is such initiatives that help to cultivate a culture of responsibility for the common good and lay a solid foundation for future generations.
About 200 employees carried out Saturday work in the Karatau district of Shymkent 31.07.2025
On July 31, 2025, on Nazarbayev Avenue, Mustafa Shokai, Nazarbekov and Argynbekov streets of the Karatau district of Shymkent, joint clean-up work was launched, led by the Zhasyl-Zher Shymkent LLP, on the instructions of the city akimat. 50 employees participated on each street - a total of about 200 people, and 25 units of special equipment were mobilized. This clean-up was a large-scale initiative aimed at ecology and civic activity of residents. The main goal of this Saturday is to create a sense of responsibility for the environment among residents by cleaning and improving streets and landscaped areas. Participants not only collected garbage, but also systematically cut down dead trees, cut grass, and cleaned sidewalks, ditches, and pedestrian paths. In addition, attention was paid to keeping irrigation systems free and opening channels to ensure the normal flow of water. 25 specially adapted vehicles: trucks, tractors, garbage trucks and mini excavators were actively used. These devices increased the speed of sanitation and allowed for a high-quality implementation of the Sabbath. There was also a high level of activity on the part of residents. They took a responsible approach to their yards and streets, participated in the campaign, and contributed to the public environment. This shows that residents are ready to establish close ties with society and the authorities. This Sabbath is significantly different from similar activities in previous years. For example, in 2024, local authorities in the Karatau district carried out landscaping work, but this time there was a huge leap forward in scale and organization. Previous Sabbaths were mostly technical or only covered one or two streets, so there was little direct participation from residents. Unlike the 2023 Sabbath, in the current situation, even explanatory work has been added to environmental culture, opening the way for public dialogue. Residents were explained the mechanisms for proper waste disposal, recycling, and reuse through seminars and leaflets. The organization of the city administration and the LLP staff was critically impeccable: all institutions and employees, in addition to planning their participation in the Sabbath, also established feedback with residents and asked for their impressions after the Sabbath. This increased confidence. Videos and photos of local residents celebrating Shabbat were actively shared on social networks. In addition, competitions were held with children and a drawing competition was organized on the theme "Dust from the mountains, my yard is clean." Not only the result of the campaign, but also its subsequent creative impact is noticeable: cleanliness is maintained in houses and flower beds, and residents are encouraged to constantly monitor the appearance of the territory. This is an important guarantee of environmental education and social unity. In the future, this practice will become a permanent format. The akimat plans to hold monthly sembiliks, expand them to other districts, and increase the level of environmental education in schools and colleges. Also, a system of small grants will be introduced based on residents' proposals - the best improvement projects will be supported. In conclusion, the clean-up drive on August 2 was not just a clean-up, but a responsible process aimed at creating an ecological culture among the city and its residents. The joint work of the employees of Zhasyl-Zher Shymkent LLP and the residents of the district is another concrete step towards transforming today's Shymkent into a clean, beautiful and modern city. Thanks to this, Turan district is truly improving, becoming an example for other districts in the future.
A Clean City is a Common Cause: A Large-Scale Cleanup Day Was Held in Shymkent 02.08.2025
On August 2, another stage of a large-scale environmental campaign took place in Shymkent as part of the republican action "Taza Kazakhstan". Hundreds of organizations and thousands of concerned citizens united to clean the streets, courtyards and natural areas of the metropolis from accumulated garbage. Another clean-up day became not just a sanitary operation, but a real symbol of the unity of residents in the desire for a clean and well-maintained living environment. The event covered all four administrative districts of the city. According to city services, more than 11,000 people took part in the event. Over 200 units of special equipment were used in the cleanup, including dump trucks, tractors, street cleaners and excavators. Over 160 tons of solid household and plant waste were removed in one day, grass was mown, irrigation ditch networks were cleaned and dry tree branches along the streets were trimmed. Particular attention was paid to the condition of coastal zones and water bodies. Workers and volunteers cleared the banks and riverbeds of plastic and other hard-to-decompose waste that poses a threat to the environment. Such work is extremely important for preventing pollution of groundwater and surface water, especially in the arid climate of southern Kazakhstan. District akimats, city administrations, departments, volunteer movements, students and schoolchildren actively joined the environmental campaign. Residents of apartment buildings at the level of yard committees organized local clean-up days, tidying up playgrounds, alleys and flower beds near the entrances. Such clean-ups have been held in Shymkent every week since this spring. The city headquarters for environmental safety has developed a special schedule, according to which all districts take turns participating in the events. Such a systematic approach allows not only to restore order once, but also to maintain sanitary conditions at a high level throughout the year. It is noteworthy that the current wave of cleanups differs from similar events of last year. If, for example, in 2023, cleanups were mainly limited to courtyards and street areas, then this year the emphasis is on a comprehensive approach. For example, in addition to the usual types of work - garbage collection and mowing - such tasks as restoring irrigation ditches, washing sidewalks, creating green areas and installing container sites have been added. The increased participation of young people plays an important role in the success of these events. Schoolchildren, students, and youth activists take part not only in the cleanup, but also in information and outreach work. They hold mini-lectures, distribute leaflets about the importance of waste sorting and careful attitude to the urban environment. This indicates an increase in the level of environmental awareness among the new generation. It should be noted that such events also stimulate the development of social responsibility among businesses. Some companies provided transport, gloves, equipment, and food for the participants. This proves that the cleanliness of the city is not only the task of the authorities, but also the common cause of the entire society. Against the backdrop of climate change and increasingly frequent natural disasters, the topic of environmental sustainability comes to the fore. And although garbage collection does not solve all problems, it becomes a starting point for the formation of a more responsible attitude towards nature. It is especially important that clean-up days in Shymkent are becoming regular - this creates a culture of maintaining order and caring for the common space. Compared to previous years, the current format is also distinguished by better technical support. Modern technology allows for faster processes, minimizes the burden on participants, and improves the quality of cleaning. City services note that thanks to new monitoring systems, they can more accurately track areas requiring intervention. In addition to physical work, the Taza Kazakhstan campaign includes environmental lessons in schools, exhibitions, competitions for the best yard, and before-and-after photography of polluted areas. All of this helps city residents develop an understanding of how the urban environment can and should be changed for the better. It is worth emphasizing that such cleanups are not a temporary solution. They are part of a larger state program aimed at sustainable urban development and improving the quality of life. Shymkent, as one of the fastest growing megacities in the country, demonstrates an example of how to consistently improve the environmental situation in the context of intensive urbanization. According to representatives of the city akimat, at least 15 more large clean-up days are planned to be held by the end of the year, covering not only central but also remote microdistricts, spontaneous dumps and industrial zones. In the future, it is planned to introduce digital platforms for collecting proposals from citizens on improving the urban ecology. Thus, the clean-up day on August 2 became an important stage on the way to a cleaner, greener and more comfortable Shymkent. And, as practice shows, if everyone makes a feasible contribution, our common home will become much more pleasant to live in.
"Clean Kazakhstan": Shymkent residents actively participate in environmental protection 02.08.2025
On August 2, another city-wide cleanup was organized in Shymkent as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" republican environmental campaign. This event turned into a large-scale cleaning campaign that covered all districts of the city. Employees of the city administration and various government agencies, active youth and volunteers joined forces and contributed to the beautification and improvement of the city's sanitary conditions. More than 11 thousand people participated in the event, and 215 special equipment was deployed. During this day's cleanup, more than 160 tons of household and construction waste were removed, water channels and banks were cleaned. Dead tree branches were cut, grass in green belts was mowed, irrigation systems were cleaned, and garbage was collected from sidewalks and roadsides. All this is aimed at keeping the city clean and creating a comfortable living environment. Four districts of the city — Enbekshi, Al-Farabi, Abai, and Karatau — participated in the Sabbath. In each district, cleaning activities were organized according to a specific plan, and courtyards, recreation areas, and public institutions were cleaned. This event aims not only to ensure cleanliness, but also to increase the ecological culture of the population. The participation of volunteers and youth organizations demonstrates the impact of this initiative on the education of future generations. The ecological campaign began in the spring, on March 16, in all regions of the country. Since then, weekly clean-up activities have been held in Shymkent. This initiative will continue until the end of the year, and clean-up activities will be organized every week. This ongoing work is aimed at systematically improving the ecological situation of the city. In general, such clean-ups are not the first time in Shymkent. For example, last year, autumn and spring clean-ups were organized at the initiative of the city administration, and thousands of tons of garbage were removed. During the clean-up in October 2023, city residents and representatives of government agencies also actively participated, and about 120 tons of garbage were collected. This time, the indicators show that it is being held on a much larger scale and more systematically. In comparison, the peculiarity of this year's "Clean Kazakhstan" campaign is that it is organized and systematically implemented at the republican level. Weekly clean-ups are a regular environmental event included in the calendar plans of city and district akimats. In addition, this year, special equipment and safety items were provided to the participants of the clean-up, and the work process was much more organized. It is worth noting that the voluntary participation of city residents in this event indicates an increase in the environmental responsibility of society. The activity of young people in particular deserves special attention. They not only carry out cleaning work, but also spread information on social networks, setting an example for their peers. Sanitation is not just about cleaning, it is a mechanism for protecting the environment. It is a clear manifestation of compassion for nature, respect for society, and a sense of responsibility. It is important to understand that keeping the city clean depends not only on the akimat, but on each resident. Today, the cleanliness and well-being of city streets is a key indicator of the appearance of a metropolis. Therefore, such initiatives should continue throughout the year, not just in the spring and autumn seasons, becoming a permanent element of environmental education. The Shymkent city administration announced that such Saturdays will continue in the future, and also plans to strengthen environmental education classes in schools and universities. This, in turn, will play an important role in shaping the attitude of children and adolescents towards nature. In conclusion, the city-wide cleanup on August 2 was an important event that increased the environmental responsibility of Shymkent residents. This is not just a one-time event, but a systematic initiative with a long-term goal. Such work will continue in the future, contributing to the city becoming a cleaner and more comfortable place.
Clean-up day in Turansky district: joint efforts for a clean city 03.08.2025
On August 3, 2025, another citywide cleanup took place in Shymkent, which this time took place in the Turansky district, in microdistrict No. 3. The event became part of a large-scale city campaign to improve the sanitary conditions and beautification of the urban environment. The event was attended by employees of the district akimat, representatives of public utilities and contracting organizations, as well as concerned residents. From early morning, participants went out to clean up courtyards, roadside areas, irrigation ditches and public areas. Work was organized to collect garbage, uproot dry trees, sweep streets and clean canals. Municipal equipment was used: dump trucks, excavators, Gazelles and water trucks. Many residents also came out with their own tools - shovels, brooms and rakes - to help clean up the area around their houses and entrances. During the clean-up, special attention was paid to abandoned courtyards and hard-to-reach areas where garbage accumulated and drains clogged. After a preliminary inspection, the utility services identified areas with the most difficult situation and went there first. Thus, the emphasis was placed not only on the "front" streets, but also on those where the pollution problem is most acute. Residents of the district enthusiastically took part in the cleanup. According to them, participation in such events not only helps make the district cleaner, but also brings neighbors closer together. "We rarely communicated before, but when you clean your yard together, conversations and ideas arise on how to improve our district," said Aigul Saparbekkyzy, a resident of the microdistrict. The organizers note that the cleanup day in the Turansky District was one of the most productive in recent months. Over 30 tons of solid household waste were collected and removed on that day alone. Several courtyards, where there had been no systematic cleaning before, were completely cleaned, and free circulation of water was ensured in the irrigation ditches, which is especially important in anticipation of the autumn season. Representatives of the Akimat of the Turansky District also held short information sessions among the population on environmental safety, waste sorting and sanitary standards. Leaflets were distributed reminding about the importance of keeping adjacent territories clean and responsibility for throwing garbage in the wrong places. Mini-lectures were held for children who observed the process and they were asked to draw pictures on the topic "A clean city is in our hands". Comparing with previous clean-up days in Shymkent, we can note progress both in organization and in the level of public participation. For example, in March 2024, a similar event was held in the Al-Farabi district, where the main focus was on landscaping and tree planting. In the Turan district, this time the focus was on sanitary cleaning and irrigation infrastructure. Such initiatives have also yielded good results in the past. In August 2023, a clean-up day was already held in the Turansky District, but the coverage was more limited then. This year, the scale has expanded significantly, and, according to those in charge, such events are planned to be made regular. Dates for the autumn clean-up day are already being considered, with additional locations included, including playgrounds, sports areas and pedestrian alleys. In addition to the obvious benefit for the environment, such actions help to form a sense of belonging to the place where you live. People begin to care more about the order not only on their landing, but also in the area as a whole. This gradually changes the attitude to the environment - responsibility increases, the level of vandalism decreases, the atmosphere in the microdistricts improves. It is important to note that cleanliness and improvement are not one-time efforts. As the organizers emphasized, the effect of the cleanup will be sustainable only with the support of the residents themselves. It is necessary to monitor the order daily, remind neighbors and children about the rules of hygiene and care for public areas. At the end of the clean-up day, the participants took a group photo against the backdrop of the cleaned street, as a symbol of collective work. The district administration thanked everyone who did not stay aside, and expressed confidence that such events in the future will become even larger and more effective. Thus, the clean-up day in the Turansky district not only improved the appearance of the microdistrict, but also became an example of how simple joint actions can significantly affect the quality of the urban environment. The city becomes cleaner when each resident feels like its rightful owner - and on August 3 this was proven once again.
City-wide Sabbath in Turan district: a demonstration of cleanliness and social responsibility 03.08.2025
On August 3, 2025, large-scale cleaning work was organized in the Turan district of Shymkent as part of the city-wide cleanup declared throughout the city. This cleanup was an important step aimed at beautifying the city, keeping the environment clean, and increasing environmental culture among residents. The event was held in the 3rd microdistrict of Turan district. Employees of the district akimat, municipal specialists, special equipment and contractors actively participated in the Saturday. In addition, it was noted that ordinary residents showed great interest in this event and unitedly worked to clean the courtyards and streets of their houses. This is a vivid example of civic responsibility and not being indifferent to the common cause. During the weekend, yard areas, pedestrian paths, roadsides, ditch systems, and open areas were cleaned of garbage. Dead branches and tree debris were collected, and irrigation systems were thoroughly cleaned. Dozens of tons of household waste and construction waste were removed with the help of special equipment. In collaboration with municipal institutions, work was also carried out to maintain the greenery in the area, plant trees, and install decorative elements. The peculiarity of this week's cleanup was that it was not limited to just collecting garbage, but also involved educational activities with residents. During the cleanup, residents were given advice on how to sort household waste, how to care for the city's environment, how to preserve lawns, and how to maintain greenery. It was also explained that keeping public spaces clean is the responsibility of every citizen. It is worth noting that such clean-ups were held in previous years. For example, in 2023 and 2024, several clean-up operations were organized in the Turan district. But at that time, clean-ups were carried out mainly by municipal services, and the participation of residents was limited. This year's clean-ups took place with a new impetus - the public's activity was high, and explanatory work was carried out specifically and systematically. The spring 2024 cleanup mainly collected street garbage and covered only the main centers. Small yards near residential buildings were neglected. And in the cleanup on August 3, 2025, the scope of territorial coverage was much wider. The outskirts of the city were also not neglected. This, in turn, indicates the introduction of a fair and systematic approach for all residents. Another feature is that this year's Sabbath was planned and carefully organized by the district akimat. Each institution and organization was assigned specific tasks, and feedback was established with residents. In addition, invitations to participate in the Sabbath were distributed through social networks, and residents were informed in advance. Thus, the openness and accessibility of the organization increased the number of participants in the Sabbath. The Sabbath should be considered not only as a campaign for cleanliness, but also as a sign of mutual understanding and trust between society and the authorities. The voluntary participation of residents in the Sabbath and their participation in the beautification of the city is an expression of their love and compassion for their native city. In addition, such events can be an effective tool for environmental education among young people. The Turan district akimat plans to hold such clean-ups regularly in the future. Every month, a city-wide clean-up will be organized in the district, and a systematic schedule will be drawn up. This will be a long-term and permanent measure taken for the cleanliness and beauty of the city. In conclusion, the city-wide clean-up campaign held on August 3 was not only a cleaning campaign, but also a concrete example of forming an ecological culture, increasing civic responsibility, and establishing an effective dialogue with residents. Such initiatives not only improve the appearance of the city, but also deepen the attitude towards cleanliness, order, and unity in the minds of residents. In the future, more frequent holding of such events will be an important guarantee for a clean and comfortable Shymkent.
Green Initiative: A project to improve the intersection of Ryskulova and Baitursynov streets has begun in Shymkent 31.07.2025
At the end of July 2025, landscaping work began at the intersection of Ryskulova and Baitursynov streets in Shymkent. The initiative to create a new green park in this area was voiced by the residents themselves at one of the meetings with the city mayor. Local residents, noting the lack of public recreation areas and green spaces, suggested that the city authorities pay attention to this area. Their voice was heard - landscaping work began in a short time. The city administration responded promptly to the citizens' request, including the project in the priority work plan. Today, the site has already been fenced, the territory is being planned and the soil is being prepared for planting. In the future, alleys, flower beds, benches, lighting and, possibly, small architecture will appear here - elements necessary for comfortable and safe recreation of city residents. It is important to note that this project has one key feature - it was not born in the offices of officials, but as a result of a dialogue between the authorities and residents. This approach emphasizes the change in the philosophy of urban management, where the initiative comes from citizens, and the administration acts not just as an executor, but as a partner. The need for parks and recreation areas in a fast-growing metropolis like Shymkent is growing every year. This is especially noticeable in areas with dense development and heavy traffic, where the population lacks silence, shade and the opportunity to simply walk in the fresh air. The area at the intersection of Ryskulov and Baitursynov is just one of these: a busy transport artery surrounded by residential buildings and retail facilities, until recently did not have any landscaped green area. Historically, Shymkent has implemented landscaping and improvement projects more than once. For example, in 2024, the city improved the embankments of the Koshkarata River - one of the iconic initiatives aimed at returning the city's lost natural and public spaces. At that time, the main focus was on environmental cleaning, installing new benches and lighting along the river. Similar work was carried out in the Turan microdistrict, where children's and sports playgrounds, as well as family recreation areas, were organized. However, the current project is different in that it is not part of any national campaign or state plan. It is a response to a specific request from specific people. Residents did not just complain, but proposed a solution, which is especially valuable. Thus, Shymkent is taking a step towards more meaningful urban planning - not from the top down, but from the bottom up. In addition, this approach strengthens the sense of responsibility among city residents. A park that appeared on the initiative of local residents is more likely to be preserved and cared for by the users themselves. This creates a culture of shared use and care for the common space. In retrospect, we can recall other examples where local initiatives were effective. For example, in 2022, residents of the Nursat residential area also advocated for landscaping of courtyard areas, after which trees were planted and playgrounds were installed there. This experience, like the current one, showed that public involvement has a positive effect and affects the quality of the urban environment. The new park, in addition to its aesthetic and ecological functions, will also play a social role. It will be a point of attraction for communication, a place for meetings, recreation, and possibly for holding local events. Reducing the level of street noise, improving the microclimate, and simply creating a pleasant visual space - all this will affect the mood and quality of life of residents of the adjacent neighborhoods. Shymkent continues to develop as a modern, environmentally sustainable city. But it is important that growth is not accompanied only by construction and an increase in the number of cars, but is balanced with the creation of a high-quality urban environment. Initiatives like the current one are proof of this. The project at the intersection of Ryskulov and Baitursynov is not just another park. It is an example of dialogue and cooperation between the government and society. It shows that even a local proposal can become a catalyst for positive change if the government is ready to listen, and residents are ready to speak and participate. In the future, such initiatives may form the basis of a broad city program, "A Square in Every District," where each resident will be able to contribute to the improvement of the environment. This is the path to the formation of not just infrastructure, but an urban community - alive, active and not indifferent to its city.
