Earthquake safe rules 14.10.2025
Örken East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Education Development of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region hosted an unusual lesson for school students of East Kazakhstan region in a format of an interview in the Kazakh language on the topic “Earthquake safety rules”. The guest of the event was Bolatkhanuly Nurasyl, an engineer of Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, Lieutenant of Civil Protection. The lesson was held in an open-dialogue format, allowing both students and teachers to ask questions and receive answers to the most relevant issues related to seismic safety. At the beginning of the lesson, Bolatkhanuly Nurasyl explained that an earthquake is one of the most devastating natural disasters, which can be caused by tectonic activity, volcanic eruptions, rock collapses, or even man-made explosions.Special emphasis was placed to the fact that East Kazakhstan is among seismically active regions of the country. There are 75 settlements in the region at risk of earthquakes, including Ust-Kamenogorsk city and Ridder town, as well as Altai, Glubokoe, Zaisan, Katon-Karagai, Kurchum districts and others. The speaker stressed that it is impossible to predict an earthquake with absolute certainty, but there are indirect signs, such as: unusual behavior of animals, changes in water levels, ground rumbling or vibrations, unexplained gas smell.During the lesson, much attention was paid to the proper conduct rules during an earthquake. If a person is inside a multi-story building, it is safer to remain indoors, taking shelter in doorways or other protected areas. It is extremely dangerous to use the elevator and attempt to exit via stairways during tremors. Outdoors, individuals should move away from buildings, trees, power lines, and fuel stations, seeking open spaces whenever possible. Every resident of a seismic-risk area should prepare an emergency “go-bag,” which includes: documents, money, medicines, a minimum supply of food, water and warm clothes. The students also learned about the modern emergency notification systems in the region that delivers real-time alerts about emergency situations via mobile phones. At the end of the lesson, the speaker stressed that while earthquakes cannot be prevented, preparedness is key to safety. Such events help students develop a culture of safety and the skills necessary to act appropriately in critical situations from an early age.The organizers noted that such educational interview-lessons contribute not only to raising awareness among schoolchildren but also to fostering personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/vko-bilim/press/news/details/1079580?lang=kk
