In Shymkent, more than 200 entrepreneurs have been held accountable since the beginning of the year for unjustified price increases on socially important goods, 15 of them for meat. Shymcity Park is a multifunctional public space that has become a favorite place not only for Shymkal residents, but also for city guests. It has pedestrian paths, sports fields, children's play areas, green areas and ponds. Thousands of people relax here every day in the summer. Therefore, special requirements are placed on the cleanliness and beauty of the park. In April 2025, work began on cleaning rivers and canals in Shymkent, and continues until July 24. These environmental and infrastructure measures are currently being carried out on an ongoing basis. About several hundred tons of garbage and sediment were collected near the Bozaryk, Baidibek Bi, and Koshkar-ata rivers in the city and removed with special equipment. Although these works ensured the safety of the population from flooding, they were limited to only one season. The peculiarity of the current cleaning work in 2025 is that they are carried out regularly. In 2024, the Emergency Situations Department and the Natural Resources Department also inspected the condition of rivers, lakes, and canals and carried out preventive work. However, this work was mostly limited to preliminary inspections and cleaning in limited areas. Systematic and planned cleaning was not undertaken. As part of the cleaning work that began in March-April 2025, the hydrotechnical condition of the canals was also monitored. The main water channels of the city — the Koshkar-ata, Karasu, Aksu rivers and their tributaries, as well as canals used for agricultural purposes — are being gradually cleaned and cleared of sediments. These measures will restore the natural flow of the rivers, reduce water stagnation, odor formation, and harm to aquatic flora and fauna. In addition, residents themselves participated in the Saturday clean-ups and contributed to the cleanliness of their territory. This initiative, compared to previous cleaning and landscaping activities, is being carried out systematically and with a specific plan. In 2024, for example, as part of the "Clean Kazakhstan" republican campaign, cleaning was carried out in the city. But most often it took place in the form of one-time cleanups. And this year, cleaning is being carried out regularly in the Turan district, which may have a long-term impact on the ecosystem. In previous years, a number of projects aimed at increasing greenery were implemented. In 2023–2024, more than 220 thousand tree seedlings were planted in Shymkent, several new flower beds were opened. In addition, fire-fighting mineral strips were created in forest areas, and care for natural areas was enhanced. These measures were aimed at long-term results and had a positive impact on the city's ecosystem. The work in the Turan district in 2025 can be considered a continuation of these projects. Because not only garbage collection, but also ongoing maintenance measures such as tree trimming, lawn watering, and grass cutting ensure environmental sustainability. The impact of these activities on the environment is significant. Maintaining lawns and grass reduces the amount of dust in the air and regulates the temperature in the city. In short, the cleaning and landscaping work that began on July 25 and is being systematically continued is a concrete step towards improving the ecosystem of Shymkent. As a continuation of projects from previous years, this initiative will lead to positive changes not only in the environmental, but also in the social and cultural spheres. On July 25, 2025, large-scale works on sanitary cleaning and improvement of the urban environment were organized in the Turansky district of the city of Shymkent. These events became part of the planned activities that ShymkentSpetsKompleks LLP regularly carries out in order to improve the urban ecology and improve the quality of life of the population. During the day, specialists from the service organization carried out work to clear streets and sidewalks of garbage, mow grass and lawns, water and care for flower beds, and perform sanitary pruning of trees. The work covered both central and outlying areas of the district. Public utilities, specialized equipment, and green space workers were involved in the activities. The main goal of such events is not just to restore order, but to create a long-term and sustainable ecological climate within the city. Clean streets, well-kept flower beds and healthy trees have a positive effect not only on the appearance of the city, but also on air quality, noise levels, humidity and the general ecological situation. A distinctive feature of the current work is its systematic and continuous nature. If in previous years events of this kind were mainly limited to one-time actions and clean-up days, now the work is carried out on a regular basis. This indicates the city's transition from temporary solutions to sustainable policies in the field of ecology and urban improvement. Thus, in 2024, events were held in Shymkent as part of the national project "Clean Kazakhstan". Then the main emphasis was on mass cleanups and public cleanups, which covered wide sections of the population. Despite the positive effect, their impact was short-term. In contrast, the events held in the Turansky district in 2025 are systemic and preventive in nature, covering both the aesthetic and functional aspects of maintaining urban infrastructure. It should be noted that significant environmental projects have also been carried out in Shymkent in previous years. According to the city authorities, the work is systemic and covers the main waterways, as well as small canals passing through residential areas. Since early spring, Shymkent has been facing risks of rising ground and surface water levels. Heavy rainfall, melting snow and household waste accumulating in riverbeds have often caused local flooding, especially in densely populated areas. That is why it was decided to urgently carry out deep cleaning of reservoirs and sewer branches, as well as carry out preventive work to strengthen the banks and ensure the free flow of water. These activities involve the use of specialized equipment and manual labor. Workers clear the bottom and banks of accumulated sediment, silt, stones, branches and debris. Particular attention is paid to areas where the water used to stagnate, which led to an unpleasant odor and the proliferation of insects. Now such areas are being restored, and the water flow returns to its natural channel. The main goal of these events, according to representatives of public utilities, is not only to prevent flooding, but also to improve the state of the urban ecosystem in the long term. Then, only the most problematic areas were cleaned, and the cleaning was most often carried out in emergency mode after complaints from local residents. In 2024, an attempt was made to move to a systemic prevention model. City services conducted a survey of hydraulic structures and several dozen kilometers of waterways. However, real large-scale work was never implemented due to a lack of funding and weather conditions. Unlike previous years, the current campaign is more extensive and well-thought-out. Not only municipal enterprises participate in the work, but also contractors, volunteers and residents of individual areas. The condition of water bodies is monitored daily, the water level is controlled and drainage devices are inspected. Particular attention is paid to canals used for agricultural purposes. In anticipation of the summer irrigation season, it is important that water reaches the fields without obstruction. Clogged canals can cause interruptions in water supply, which will directly affect crop yields. Therefore, cleaning canals plays an important role in the agricultural sustainability of the region. From an environmental point of view, such events help restore the water balance, reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the soil and water bodies, and reduce the risk of epidemiological diseases. Stagnant, polluted water is an ideal environment for the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms. And open, free-flowing channels are not only safe, but also an element of urban aesthetics. In addition, restored banks and cleaned channels create a more comfortable environment for city residents. Walking areas, green spaces, and recreation areas for families with children can be arranged on the basis of cleaned channels.
