Она - дочь народного акына, композитора и сказителя, кюйши Кенена Азербаева. За годы жизни и труда она также заслужила признание общества. Является Почетным гражданином Илийского района, Заслуженным деятелем искусств Республики Казахстан, ветераном труда и общественным деятелем.Недавно Торткен Кененовой исполнилось 90 лет. Она родилась в 1936 году на железнодорожной станции Отар Красногорского района Жамбылской области, который сегодня носит название Кордайского. С ранних лет в ее жизни особое место занимали музыка и народное творчество. Любовь к искусству она унаследовала от своего отца - известного акына Кенена Азербаева. Позднее Торткен Кененова проделала большую работу по сохранению его наследия. Ею были записаны и изданы компакт-диски с песнями отца под названиями «Қосылған қоңыр қазға ән мен үнім» и «Әнім қалсын». Благодаря этим записям многие произведения народного композитора получили новую жизнь и стали доступны широкой аудитории.Значительную часть своей жизни она посвятила педагогике. На протяжении тридцати лет Торткен Кененова работала в системе народного образования. Ее труд был высоко оценен государством. В 1981 году она была награждена почетным знаком «Отличник народного просвещения СССР», а в 1985 году - знаком «Отличник народного просвещения Республики Казахстан».Даже в столь почтенном возрасте Торткен Кененовна остается активным человеком. Придя на участок, она отметила, что участие в общественной жизни и проявление гражданской позиции важны для каждого человека, независимо от возраста. Ветеран поблагодарила за внимание и уважение к людям старшего поколения.После голосования Торткен Кененова обратилась к присутствующим с теплыми словами и дала бата-благословение.
