By the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 14, 2025, changes and additions were made to the activities of some special economic zones of the country. According to this legislation, the Aktau airport was included in the SEZ "Aktau Seaport". According to the new regulation, a special economic zone is located in the territory of Mangistau region, in particular, in the territory of the Aktau city, Munaily, Karakiya and Tupkaragan districts. It was established in order to improve the legal norms of market relations, introduce modern methods of management and business management, develop multimodal hubs, transport and logistics, increase the tourism potential of the region, create a highly efficient, competitive tourist infrastructure that meets the needs of Kazakhstani and foreign tourists, as well as solve social problems. In the first phase of the project, the runway and apron will be overhauled, the existing terminal will be modernized and a new VIP terminal will be built. And in the second stage, a new logistics center equipped with a second runway and customs warehouses - a multimodal transit hub will be launched.It is planned to create 720 new jobs within the framework of the project. In addition, the passenger flow will increase to 2.5 million people per year. The amount of cargo transported through the airport will increase from the current 3,000 tons to 100,000 tons.
