Since 2018, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with the National Company Garysh Sapary, has been working to identify and eliminate unauthorized landfills in the country. This initiative is being implemented in close cooperation with law enforcement agencies and akimats, which is already leading to positive results.Over the past four years, there has been a downward trend in the number of identified unauthorized landfills. Thus, from 2020 to 2024, the number of identified landfills decreased by almost 2 times (2020 - 8884, 2024 - 4897).Of the 4,897 unauthorized landfills identified in 2024, 2,475 (51%) have been eliminated to date.Environmental departments are working to bring officials of local executive bodies to administrative responsibility for insufficient work on the elimination of unauthorized landfills.Thus, for the period from 2022 to 2024, 439 officials, including akims and their deputies, were brought to administrative responsibility for a total amount of 40.3 million tenge. Of which 93 officials in the amount of 5.1 million tenge were involved in 2024, as well as 15 cases are under consideration.To strengthen measures to combat unauthorized landfills, the Ministry has developed Action Plans, within which regular raids are carried out to curb violations.Work is underway to amend the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Administrative Offenses" (CAO).
