Retail chains in Almaty give priority to domestic products 01.02.2025
Today, large retail chains in Almaty have a sufficient supply of vegetables. This is because they purchase products directly from Kazakhstani farmers. More than 500 tons of vegetables are stored in the warehouse of one retail chain in the city, and 7.5 tons of products are available in one store of this chain. The Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Shakkaliev visited large retail chains in the city and met with representatives of trade entities. The issue of increasing the share of domestic products on store shelves was discussed. The Minister noted that a significant part of the total assortment of retail chains in Almaty is made up of Kazakhstani products. Socially important goods, especially dairy products, have a high share. For example, 97% of dairy products in Almaty stores are produced in Kazakhstan.“We work closely with Kazakhstani farmers and manufacturers, and we are making efforts to supply their products to our retail chains. All vegetables in large retail chains are the products of Kazakhstani farmers. "Also, increasing the share of other socially significant products, such as poultry meat and vegetable oil, is an important step," the minister said.In order to further support domestic producers, the minister spoke about a number of established obligations. In particular, the presence of special labels "Made in Kazakhstan" is mandatory. In addition, the legislative transfer of the function of supporting internal trade to the Ministry of Trade is a great opportunity for domestic producers. This measure obliges retail outlets that have received state support to increase shelf space by 20%. Now, at least 50% of store shelves must be filled with Kazakhstani food products, and at least 20% with household goods. These goods must be placed in places that are visible and accessible to consumers."In order to prevent consumers from being deceived, we have tightened the requirements for the quality and location of goods. For example, goods should be placed according to the principle of proper neighborhood: dairy products should not be placed next to dairy drinks, and butter should not be placed next to butter alternatives,” Arman Shakkaliev added. The Minister also proposed organizing product exhibitions of domestic manufacturers in shopping centers in Almaty. This event will increase consumer demand for high-quality and affordable Kazakhstani products. Currently, 11 large retail chains and more than 3,500 small stores operate in Almaty. These initiatives will contribute to the widespread presentation of products of local manufacturers on store shelves.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/mti/press/news/details/928141
