Today, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan Madi Takiyev met with the new Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission to Kazakhstan Ali Al-Eyd, who replaced Nicolas Blanchet in this post.Madi Takiyev congratulated Ali Al-Eyd on her appointment and expressed gratitude for conducting regular missions under the IMF Articles of Agreement, targeted consultations and technical assistance to the government bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.During the meeting, issues of IMF interaction with Kazakhstan were discussed, including through the Regional Center for Potential Development for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia in Almaty. Panel Discussion on “80 Years of the UN and Kazakhstan’s Role: the Future of Multilateralism” was Held in Astana 26.02.2025
Astana, February 26, 2025 – A panel discussion dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations was held at the Presidential Center. The event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akan Rakhmetullin, and the Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, Steven O'Malley. The panelists included the Ambassador of Brazil to Kazakhstan, Marcel Fortuna Biato, Director of the Research Institute “Public Opinion,” Botagoz Rakisheva, the Ambassador of Turkiye to Kazakhstan, Mustafa Kapudji, and the Head of the International Security Department of the KISI, Dauren Aben. Among the attendees were heads of diplomatic missions, international organizations, and media representatives.During the discussion, participants addressed relevant issues on the international agenda, which are in focus for the UN’s anniversary year, as well as Kazakhstan’s contribution to the development of multilateral diplomacy and the country’s efforts to promote peacebuilding initiatives, including nuclear disarmament, strengthening regional security, and supporting an inclusive global order.In his speech, Rakhmetullin emphasized the strategic role of the UN in addressing global challenges and noted that, in this context, Kazakhstan continues to actively contribute to international cooperation and supports a multipolar approach in solving the problems faced by the global community.“As President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stated, ‘there is no alternative to this universal organization.’ The 80th anniversary of the UN is not just a celebration, but also an important milestone for reflecting on the role of multilateralism in today’s world. Kazakhstan and Nigeria Sign Agreements in Finance and Space Technology 26.02.2025
Abuja, February 25, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov held a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani to discuss prospects for cooperation in space technology, e-government, and fintech solutions.The Kazakh side expressed its readiness to share expertise in developing digital platforms, implementing e-government solutions, and advancing fintech innovations. The parties agreed to develop joint initiatives and explore specific projects in the digital sector.Additionally, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Algeria Anuarbek Akhmetov met with representatives of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where discussions focused on enhancing business ties between the private sectors of both countries. New Prospects for Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Estonia Outlined 26.02.2025
Astana, February 26, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko held a meeting with Jaap Ora, Ambassador of Estonia to Kazakhstan.Noting the dynamic and progressive development of relations, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation, both in the bilateral format and on various international platforms. Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic ties, as well as collaboration in the fields of transport, logistics, and digitalization.The diplomats also reviewed the outcomes of the 7th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Estonia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held on January 23-24, 2025, in Tallinn (IGC is co-chaired by Marat Karabayev, Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, and Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia).Deputy Minister Vassilenko emphasized that the implementation of the agreements reached is crucial for deepening relations between Astana and Tallinn.Both parties expressed their readiness to continue close partnership in areas of mutual interest and outlined the schedule of events for 2025, including preparations for high-level and top-level visits.At the conclusion of the meeting, Vassilenko congratulated the Estonian diplomat on the 107th anniversary of Estonia’s independence, wishing peace, prosperity, and well-being to its people.For reference: The volume of mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Estonia in 2024 amounted to 71.7 million US dollars, which is 54% less than in 2023 (157.5 million). Exports from Kazakhstan amounted to 38.7 million dollars, imports to Kazakhstan – 33 million dollars. Since 2012, Estonia has contributed 98.3 million US dollars in direct investments to Kazakhstan. Astana, February 25, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko held a meeting with the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan Katarzyna Wawiernia.During the conversation, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation with UNDP, including within the framework of regional and bilateral initiatives.Deputy Minister Vassilenko noted the importance of interaction with UNDP in the area of financing concrete projects aimed at developing local self-government and providing technical assistance to government agencies of Kazakhstan.For her part, Permanent Representative Wawiernia welcomed the high dynamics of interaction and expressed readiness to continue interacting in the most priority areas of cooperation.Concluding the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to maintain a dialogue on current issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.For reference: The United Nations Development Programme is the largest UN agency operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
