STUDENTS OF KAZAKHSTAN ARE PREPARING FOR THE XXXIII WORLD WINTER UNIVERSIADE IN TURINThe XXXIII World Winter Universiade among University Students will be held in Turin (Italy) from January 13 to 23, 2025. About 2,000 athletes from 57 countries will take part in the competition. 90 sets of medals will be awarded in 11 sports.Kazakhstan will be represented at the Universiade by 103 athletes who will compete in 10 sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, winter orienteering, freestyle skiing, figure skating, hockey (men's and women's), paralympic racing, alpine skiing, short track.The opening ceremony will take place on January 13 at 19:30 in the Inalpi Arena (Turin), and the closing ceremony will take place on January 23, 2025 at 20:00.The competition will be held from January 11 to 23 in accordance with the schedule of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).The aim of the Universiade is to attract young people to sports, promote a healthy lifestyle, develop mass sports and promote an active lifestyle.It should be noted that the national team of Kazakhstan showed the best result at the 2017 home Universiade in Almaty, taking second place in the overall medal standings. THE LARGEST STUDENT HOUSE WITH 2,656 SEATS OPENED AT ENU The grand opening of the largest modern student house with the participation of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took place at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The solemn event was attended by Mayor of Astana Zhenis Kassymbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Rector of ENU Yerlan Sydykov, teachers and students.The large-scale dormitory consists of three blocks with 2,656 beds. The area of the 6-storey building is 15 thousand square meters.m. Each block has coworking areas, libraries, sports and commercial premises for convenient student accommodation. Student houses are also equipped with fire protection systems, security systems and full wi-fi coverage. It will house undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students of ENU. The building was built on the basis of a public-private partnership.The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, informed the President about the directions of providing students with dormitories and the creation of an academic hub in the country through the opening of branches of foreign universities. He stressed that the uniqueness of the student house lies in creating conditions for comfortable living for students with disabilities.The residential block provided for this purpose takes into account all the conditions for accessibility, comfort and safety. The dormitory spaces are equipped with appropriate adapted facilities, including a convenient elevator, wide doorways and bathrooms, as well as special beds and furniture."A dormitory is not just a place to stay, but a full—fledged ecosystem that promotes the comprehensive development of students. Today, the newly opened ENU student complex is the largest dormitory in the history of Kazakhstan, with a capacity of 2,656 places. A special feature of this complex is the presence of a block specially adapted for students with special needs. This unit provides all the necessary conditions to ensure accessibility, comfort and safety. The design and infrastructure of the hostel are designed to create a supportive environment for inclusive students. We will continue to work on improving the infrastructure of higher education. January 5, 2001 is the day of the heroic death of police captain Zhalelkhan Murymbaev.On this day, police captain Zhalelkhan Murymbayev sacrificed his life to save elderly people trapped in snow on a highway in the East Kazakhstan region.The winter of that year was particularly harsh: heavy snowfalls were followed by severe frosts, paralyzing roads and machinery. Many cars got stuck in the snow, and some of the special equipment could not work due to lack of winter fuel. Kilometer-long traffic jams formed on the highways, and drivers and passengers became hostages of the weather.On that day, exactly 24 years ago, Zhalelkhan Murymbayev was returning from Ust-Kamenogorsk to the administrative center of his district. On the section of road connecting the Zharminsky and Kokpektinsky districts, he received a message that a car with employees of the local department of culture was stuck in the snow. Without hesitation, the captain went to help.Visibility on the highway was almost zero, the blizzard and snowfall did not stop, and elderly people were waiting for rescue in the car.When he got to his seat on the UAZ, Zhalelkhan transferred the passengers to his official car. There was no room left for a policeman in the cabin. The 33-year-old officer tried to walk to the village for some time. The bad weather turned out to be worse — the captain was killed.The bright memory of Zhalelkhan Murymbayev is alive. His feat and dedication have become an example for many.
