The Ministry of Emergency Situations is implementing a project to monitor the avalanche risk 01.02.2025
Specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and scientists of the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University installed sensors of an autonomous automated avalanche risk monitoring system as part of a pilot project. The system allows you to warn about the risk of snow masses falling from the slopes and take timely preventive measures in the region. "We have been cooperating with scientists for several years, the main goal is to study avalanche activity and create a monitoring system. The project was financed under the scientific, scientific and technical programs of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023-2025. A preliminary systematization of avalanche-prone areas by districts of the region was carried out, and snow-measuring routes were developed for them. Mapping of the areas was carried out using modern methods and GIS technologies. "The installation of the first sensors of the monitoring system in the pilot project began today in the Glubokoe district," said Telgat Nurakhmet, acting head of the Kazseldenkorgau branch of the East Kazakhstan region. "Since the increase in temperature, heavy rainfall, and wind blowing snow increase the likelihood of avalanches, effective tools for predicting them were needed. The automated monitoring system will allow collecting the necessary data in real time, conducting video surveillance, including when it is difficult for observers to go out to measure snow thickness in difficult weather conditions, obtaining the necessary forecast for the avalanche situation and taking preventive measures in a timely manner," explained Natalya Denisova, digital officer of the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University. According to Arman Nauryzbayev, head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department of the East Kazakhstan region, cooperation with scientists will allow us to effectively fulfill the tasks of preventing emergencies in the region.
