The fight against childhood cancer: what measures are being taken in this area in the capital 21.02.2025
Every year, about 600 children in Kazakhstan are diagnosed with cancer, which is a common oncological disease in the country. How is modern medicine fighting the disease and what innovations are there in the pharmaceutical industry? Tatyana Sablina, a city freelance pediatric oncohematologist, a doctor of the highest category, answered these and other questions at a briefing held at the Astana City Communications Service, the official website of the capital's akimat reports. The most common oncological diseases among children include: Acute leukemias - diseases of the blood-forming system; Central nervous system tumors; Soft tissue tumors; Bone and retroperitoneal space tumors; Kidney tumors. In Kazakhstan, children's oncological diseases are treated by two large republican multidisciplinary medical centers. One of them is the National Mother and Child Scientific Center in Astana.Doctors use modern protocols in accordance with international standards in the treatment of cancer. In particular, targeted therapy, which directly affects malignant cells and minimizes damage to healthy tissues, is widely used. Children who have not responded to standard chemotherapy or whose disease has relapsed are undergoing bone marrow transplantation from related and unrelated donors.“Early detection of the disease is the key factor in successful treatment. For this purpose, a memo for parents has been developed to identify specific symptoms in advance. Early diagnosis significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment. One of the important steps in the prevention of cancer is vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV). This vaccine reduces the risk of developing cervical, rectal and other oncological diseases. In Kazakhstan, this vaccine is included in the National Vaccination Calendar for girls aged 11-13.The state is systematically working to improve methods of detecting and treating cancer in children. Parents and society should understand the importance of early detection of the disease and undergo timely medical examinations. "Children's health is our most important value," says Tatyana Sablina.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/astana/press/news/details/938784
JSC "Irtysh" SEC: There are enough potatoes. The problem is not in the shortage, but in the huge difference in prices 21.02.2025
False and unfounded information about the price of potatoes is still circulating, and the availability, cost and quality of the product are being hotly debated. However, according to official data, the stock of products is sufficient. The current hype is caused solely by the difference between the market price of potatoes and the price under the stabilization program."Irtysh" SEC" JSC regularly supplies socially significant vegetable products, including potatoes, to trade pavilions within the framework of the stabilization program. Today, the price of socially significant vegetables is stable: potatoes, carrots and cabbage are traded at 125 tenge per kilogram, and onions - at 130 tenge.Under the contract concluded between the "Altai" Wholesale and Distribution Center and "Irtysh" SEC" JSC, a volume of 5,500 tons of potatoes was contracted from November 1, 2024 to May 1, 2025. Today, there is about half of this volume in the stock, which is enough until the end of the contract. And in the off-season period (June-July), a new contract is concluded annually for early-ripening vegetables.Within the framework of the stabilization program, not only potatoes were purchased, but also carrots, onions and cabbage, which are included in the category of socially significant products. The volume of products for which contracts were concluded: carrots - 1,300 tons, onions - 900 tons, cabbage - 1,350 tons.In the East of the country, the price stabilization program is operating in normal mode. Products are delivered and distributed to 17 trade pavilions of "Irtysh" SEC" JSC on a daily basis based on requests from sellers. However, it should be noted that these trade stalls are not intended for wholesale trade. Potatoes are sold only at retail, and in order to prevent speculation, sales in bags are not carried out. In addition, about 30 stores in the regional center, within the framework of a memorandum concluded with "Irtysh" SEC" JSC, are selling four types of socially significant products at the same prices as the SEC pavilions. It is worth noting that the number of stores under these memorandums may decrease or increase at any time.According to experts, the main reason for the hype in East Kazakhstan is not a shortage of potatoes, but the price difference. If potatoes are sold at 125 tenge/kg in the pavilions of the social corporation, the price in the open market ranges from 250-350 tenge/kg. Because of this, the demand for cheap potatoes is increasing. However, as experience shows, this is a temporary phenomenon due to seasonal price fluctuations. Previously, a similar situation occurred for products such as sugar, buckwheat, and eggs.It should be noted that when concluding the contract, specialists, relying on the experience of previous years, left the price and volume of production unchanged. This decision was approved by the "East Kazakhstan Regional Commission for Stabilization of Prices for Socially Important Food Products". However, currently the difference between the price of social potatoes and market potatoes is causing a hype. Since the most affordable price in the region is 125 tenge/kg, the delivered products are selling out faster than usual. Experts say that the next delivery of potatoes, which were sold out in the morning, should be considered tomorrow. In general, since the purchase price and cost of potatoes have increased in all regions, the interest of large wholesalers in products at social prices has also increased. However, the main task of JSC "Irtysh" SEC" is not to create competition for businesses in the region, but, on the contrary, to stabilize prices during seasonal fluctuations and ensure the availability of socially significant products to the population, without turning the market into a monopoly. The main task at the present stage is also this - to ensure the availability of potatoes to the population. The delivery process is carried out on the basis of an agreement between the SEC and the "Altai" KTO. In turn, the "Altai" center has concluded a contract with "Agrofirma Prirechnoye" LLP for 2024-2025. Thus, currently potatoes are being delivered to Ust-Kamenogorsk from the Abai region. Given the distance and weather conditions, in order to prevent the products from freezing in winter, deliveries are not carried out by ordinary large and capacious trucks. 1-2 small trucks arrive in the regional center per day. They are equipped with a heat regulator and a special ventilation system, and their capacity is 5-10 tons.Since the area of the trading pavilions is 18 m², it is impossible to "fill" them with potatoes alone. There are other products sold by the entrepreneur in the pavilions. The main task within the framework of the stabilization program is to maintain stable prices and ensure the uninterrupted availability of potatoes until the end of the contract (May 2025).Specialists of JSC "Irtysh" SEC" stated that their obligations under the current contract will be fully fulfilled, and since there is sufficient stock in the warehouse, product deliveries will be carried out daily.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/akimvko/press/news/details/938524

Currently, the parallel operation of 13 trains allows reducing the waiting time of passengers on the platform and preventing crowding.Metro specialists are constantly monitoring the passenger flow and promptly making the necessary changes to the train schedule.Almaty Metro Press ServiceSource : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/almaty/press/news/details/938807

98.9% of Kazakhstan's population has universal access to drinking water included 21.02.2025
"It is our direct duty to take comprehensive measures to provide the population with drinking water and preserve water resources for future generations," said the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.By 2024, 3,100 kilometers of water supply networks had been built and renovated. According to the results of last year, 98.9% of Kazakhstanis were provided with water supply services: 99.4% of urban residents and 97.8% of rural residents had access to quality drinking water.(For reference: in 2020, 93.8% of citizens were covered with drinking water, in 2021 - 95.6%, in 2022 - 96.5%, in 2023 - 97.8%).As part of the implementation of the instructions of the Head of State, 8 projects for the construction and reconstruction of group water pipelines were completed in 2024 in 6 regions of the country: Akmola, Almaty, Kyzylorda, North Kazakhstan, Mangistau and Ulytau regions. This improved the quality of water supply to 49 settlements with a population of 208 thousand. The implementation of 23 projects for the construction and reconstruction of group water pipelines has begun in 9 regions of the country: Akmola, Atyrau, Almaty, Kyzylorda, Mangistau, Turkestan, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan and Ulytau regions. As a result of the implementation of all projects, more than 2,100 kilometers of water pipelines will be built to improve the quality of water supply to 420 settlements. 67 settlements with a population of 162 thousand will be connected to the centralized water system. In 2024, 241 water pipelines were inspected to ensure sanitary and epidemiological supervision over the quality of drinking water. Of these, 209 were in rural areas, 24 in cities, and 8 were group water pipelines. 44 instructions were issued to eliminate the identified violations. In total, more than 66 thousand samples taken from water pipelines across the country were examined. “We need a state-wide program. Drinking water cannot be used to irrigate gardens. Instead, it is necessary to implement water-saving technologies and search for new sources of water underground,” noted the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. On the instructions of the Head of State, the National Hydrogeological Service “Kazhydrogeology” was established in 2024. The institution carries out prospecting and exploration work for the development and use of groundwater resources in regions with water shortages in the country. Special attention was paid to providing settlements in the west of the republic with drinking water from underground sources. According to estimates, the reserves of groundwater in Kazakhstan are about 40 billion cubic meters, of which 15 billion cubic meters are ready for use. It is worth noting that 1.2 billion cubic meters of water are consumed annually in the country for drinking water needs. To increase the volume of groundwater, it is planned to build 42 new reservoirs by 2030 with a total capacity of 2.6 billion cubic meters of water. “We have been saying for many years that it is important to form a culture of resource conservation in society. But it is not enough to appeal to citizens. In addition, it is necessary to introduce social norms for resource consumption. There are good examples that can be followed,” said the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In order to effectively use water resources, comprehensive work is being carried out on digitizing the water sector, encouraging the introduction of modern water-saving technologies and switching to drought-resistant crops, as well as reusing treated wastewater in large settlements. In addition, methodological guidelines on water conservation in domestic conditions have been approved. As part of accelerating the introduction of advanced water-saving technologies, measures have been developed to encourage enterprises to switch to water reuse systems in industry. The new edition of the Water Code provides for the requirement that enterprises have a plan to switch to water recycling and (or) reuse systems within a five-year period. A model plan for increasing water reuse at industrial facilities in each region until 2030 has been developed and approved.By the end of 2030, it is planned to increase the share of water reuse in sectors of the economy from 17% to 28%.In addition, a Methodological Guide to saving water in domestic conditions has been approved, the document includes measures such as timely elimination of malfunctions in taps, use of aeration taps, use of two-button water drain tanks, installation of automatic sensor water mixers, turning on the washing machine only when it is fully loaded, etc.In 2024, the procedure for charging drinking water for individuals was revised in 6 regions of the country. Social norms of consumption have been introduced (in case of consumption of more than 3 m3 of water per month, the tariff for the volume of water exceeding the norm increases). This measure has allowed saving an average of 1.65 million cubic meters of water per month in 6 regions: Akmola, Aktobe, Turkestan, Ulytau regions and the cities of Almaty and Shymkent. Before the introduction of social norms of consumption, the average volume of drinking water consumption in all 6 regions was 21.1 million cubic meters, today this figure has decreased to 19.5 million cubic meters.Complete modernization of water management infrastructure, introduction of advanced water-saving technologies, digitalization of the water metering system, and development of a water-saving culture among the population and enterprises will allow providing the population of Kazakhstan with high-quality water.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/water/press/news/details/937950
