Environmentally friendly snow melting technology has been applied for the first time in Almaty within the framework of the Taza Kazakhstan concept. 23.01.2025
In Almaty, as part of the implementation of the Taza Kazakhstan concept, initiated on behalf of the Head of State, a snow melting plant was opened for the first time in the country. A special feature of the project is the environmentally friendly snow melting technology used, which is a unique experience for Kazakhstan. The technology allows not only to reduce the cleaning time of the city during snowfalls, but also to minimize environmental damage to the environment. Previously, snow from the streets of the city, along with anti-icing materials, including salt solutions, got into the soil. Additional resources were spent on soil reclamation. As the head of the improvement department of the Municipal Infrastructure Development Department of Almaty, Bekezhan Almyrza, noted, the introduction of a snow melting point is a significant step in ensuring environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life in the metropolis. This solution significantly reduces the time and resources spent on snow removal outside the city, as well as reducing the negative impact on the environment.Teachers and students of the Kazakh Automobile and Road Institute (KazADI), with which the Mayor's Office of the city cooperates under a memorandum on personnel training, got acquainted with the work of the new point and innovative snow disposal technologies. The students got acquainted with the key stages of the work and innovative technologies. The snow collected from the streets of the city enters a special receiving structure for pre-sorting, then it is fed into melting plants. An important aspect is the fact that warm wastewater enters through the urban sewer network and passes through a pumping system, supplying the right amount of heat for melting. The installation capacity is up to 1,200 cubic meters of snow per day.The process of melting snow occurs under pressure, which allows you to speed up the process and ensure greater work efficiency. After the snow dissolves, the resulting meltwater is filtered from sand and other small particles, passing through several stages of purification. As a result, the meltwater is returned to the urban sewer network, which minimizes the burden on the environment and allows for the rational use of the city's resources.KazADI Rector Dauren Yesentai noted that for students of the department studying transport and environmental technologies, visiting the snow melting point has become informative and will be useful in the future."We were able to see how environmentally friendly technology is used in practice, which significantly reduces the negative impact on the environment. Such experience is invaluable, especially in a modern city, where environmental and infrastructure issues need to be addressed promptly. Students can rely on these technologies in their further studies and take them into account in the design of infrastructure facilities," the rector emphasized.1st-year student Sultan Sailaugazy, who is studying in the specialty "transport equipment and technologies", noted that the information received during the visit will help in the future to contribute to improving the environmental and infrastructural efficiency of the city. "We have studied the entire process, starting with the flow of water through the sewer network to the final filtration of meltwater. This not only helps to reduce the burden on city services, but also minimizes environmental risks. I am sure that this knowledge will be useful to me in the future when I work in the field of environmental management. I plan to use the knowledge I have gained to develop more effective solutions in the field of ecology and natural resource management," the student said.In turn, 1st-year student Bakytzhan Almabai, who is studying in the specialty "highway construction", noted that visiting the snow melting point was a real discovery for him."I learned how new technologies can affect the improvement of urban infrastructure. It is especially important that this project reduces the need to transport snow outside the city, which in turn helps to reduce transportation costs and emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. We will definitely use this knowledge in our professional activities and strive to develop more effective solutions for our city," the young man shared. It should be noted that snow is brought to the melting point from the territories of Auezovsky, Almalinsky and Bostandyk districts of Almaty. These areas face an acute problem of snow dumps, and heavy traffic makes it difficult to effectively remove snow from the main streets. Since the launch of the facility, 24.4 thousand cubic meters of snow have been melted. The creation of a snow melting point is a solution to urgent problems of snow disposal and an important step in the implementation of a broad environmental protection strategy within the framework of the Taza Kazakhstan program.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/almaty/press/news/details/923334

It also hosts educational and cultural events, dance halls, recording studios, and TikTok zones.Last year, over 1.7 thousand events were held in the megacity in the form of lectures, seminars, eco-actions, intellectual games, acoustic evenings, quizzes and quizzes, master classes, board games and sports tournaments with a total coverage of more than 380 thousand young people. Over 12 thousand people received consultations, of which 4.7 thousand were employed, 3.3 thousand were in short–term courses, and 2 thousand were with a psychologist and a lawyer. In total, over 112 thousand young people visited Almaty community centers in 2024.According to Bolat Kisambayev, a citizen of the city, he met active guys in community centers who jointly implement new and interesting ideas, startups, and find like-minded people. "This is a very cool initiative. We need to support young people. Such centers help not only to employ young people, but also to direct their energy in the right direction. I think that the focus should be on such relevant areas as IT technologies and artificial intelligence. Now the labor market is really changing, and Kazakhstanis need to keep up with the times. As far as I know, there are similar projects in the USA, Japan and other developed countries. I express my gratitude to the Mayor's office of the city for the opportunities provided to us," Bolat Kisambayev shared.According to volunteer Dilyaram Asanova, thanks to her participation in the activities of the city's community centers, she also made many new interesting and useful acquaintances. "These organizations allow us to unite the efforts of caring citizens. We took part in collecting humanitarian aid for flood victims, participated in the republican environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan", spoke at various forums among bloggers, at the Birlik Sport Fest event, etc. The guys from community centers are always focused on positive results," the girl said.It should be recalled that 8 community centers in Almaty were launched last year within the framework of the "Program for the development of the city of Almaty until 2025 and medium-term prospects until 2030", with the support of the project office of the city akimat - one in each district. In addition, since last year, Kazakhstani-made fandomats have been installed in each community center – collection devices for plastic bottles and aluminum cans for their further processing. Thus, environmental values are being formed among the visitors of this youth space, and residents of community centers are actively joining the ranks of eco-rangers, supporting environmental protection activities.Source : https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/almaty/press/news/details/921803
