Kozybayev University launches the National Assets Genomics Project of Kazakhstan with world expertsKozybayev University launches the National Assets Genomics Initiative. Kozybayev University announces the launch of a large-scale project "National Assets Genomics", aimed at studying and preserving unique species of Kazakhstan using modern genomic technologies. This project is an important step in implementing the instructions of the Head of State to transform universities into advanced research centers. The project is being implemented in partnership with Professor Rod Wing, a leading world expert in the field of genomics (Director of Arizona Genomics Institute; Professor and Eugene Butler Endowed Chair, AAAS Fellow, CSSA Fellow; Full Professor, KAUST, Saudi Arabia). As part of the initiative, it is planned to sequence the DNA of Kazakhstan's national assets, starting with the Caspian seal, a rare and vulnerable species living in the region. The initiator and coordinator of the program is Dr. Saule Musurova, a specialist in plant genomics. Also participating in the project is Dr. Vlada Kharchenko, a physicist specializing in structural biology (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA). Dr. Kharchenko has unique expertise in biotechnology and will join the project not only in laboratory research, but also in educational activities: he will conduct lectures and seminars for students to help form a new generation of Kazakhstani scientists in the field of genetics and biotechnology. The goals of the "Genomics of National Assets" project are: ✅ To complete the sequencing of the genomes of rare species, which will allow studying their genetic diversity and developing conservation strategies. ✅ To create a genetic information database that will be used for long-term biodiversity conservation programs. ✅ Use of modern technologies – use of the capacity of the Arizona Genomics Institute (AGI) and local platforms for DNA extraction and analysis.✅ Development of educational initiatives – introduction of international experience into the learning process through lectures and practical classes with leading world scientists. 📌 Main objects of research: 🌷 Greig's tulip – determination of the sequence of a unique plant of Kazakhstan to protect its gene pool. 🦭 Caspian seal – study of the impact of climate change on the genomic stability of the species. About 7,700 young people were employed in the Zhetysu region last year 14.02.2025
Last year, 7,695 young people under the age of 35 were employed with the support of employment agencies in Zhetysu region. Among them are young people who completed short-term vocational training, got a job, received grants and started their own businesses, - the press service of the akim of Zhetysu region reports.According to the regional Department of Coordination of Employment and Social Programs, last year, 1,322 people from among young people were employed in public works, 1,150 graduates in youth internships, 125 people in social jobs, 575 people under the "First Job", and 31 people under the "Generations Contract". In addition, there are both those who received grants and those who were trained in the basics of entrepreneurship under the "Bastau Business" project. For example, one of the 318 young people in the region who were sent for short-term vocational training is Aigerim Torebayeva from Taldykorgan. After the maternity leave, Aigerim put aside her journalism diploma and wanted to try herself in another field. So, she received a referral for short-term vocational training through the Career Center of Taldykorgan and mastered the intricacies of eyelash growth at the Tashenova Educational Center. After the three-month course, she was hired by the mentioned small business entity. - I am a mother of many children. Since my children were young, I stayed at home for a while to take care of them. Then I turned to the world of beauty and applied to the employment agency to learn a new profession. Thanks to this, in August of last year, I passed a training course and received my certificate. Highly qualified specialists taught me in detail the business of eyelash growth. In a short time in the beauty salon, I was able to show that I am a good specialist, and now I have my own regular customers. A person can learn a new profession at any time, it is never too late. I was convinced of this. It is gratifying that there are state programs that open up such opportunities, - says Aigerim Torebayeva, a mother of many children.According to the regional department of social development, last year more than 3 thousand young people were involved in meetings and explanatory work held in the region to inform about state programs and projects for youth. In this regard, there are many young people who participated in various grants and tried to open their own businesses. For example, Aiym Sailaubekova, who received higher education in psychology and speech therapy, heard about grants for young people while looking for a job in her specialty.- One day, I saw information on social networks about grants being awarded to young people on a competitive basis. I thought I would submit a project that would benefit the people for this competition and try my hand. So, I submitted a project to open a correctional center for children with special needs and won a grant of 3 million tenge. I immediately opened such a center in the city of Taldykorgan. I bought all the equipment needed for the center with the grant money. Currently, the center provides adapted physical education, sensory integration, logomassage services, and classes are conducted by speech therapists, defectologists, psychologists, and neuropsychologists. Currently, 12 people work in the center, - says the head of the "Sana" center, Ayim Sailaubekova. In total, last year, 10 grants were awarded under the "Independence Generations" grant for 3 million tenge each to support youth initiatives. Grants were presented in the areas of "Science", "Culture", "Information Technologies", "Business", and "Media" and helped young people start their own businesses. At the same time, special attention is paid to finding their place in life in the region, especially for young people in the NEET category. According to the data of the regional department of social development, last year, 635 people worked in the "Zhasyl el" labor camps aimed at providing seasonal employment to young people. Within the framework of the project, campaigns such as “Eco-landing”, “Cleanliness Spy”, “Long live young poplar”, “Green garden – clean city” were organized and cleaning measures were carried out in all districts and cities. In addition, 83 “Job Fairs” were organized, and 4,081 people were permanently employed. In addition, mentors for moral and legal work in regional schools are helping high school students choose a profession and take the right steps in their future adult life. This also has a positive impact on youth policy. It should be noted that today 126 people are working within the mentoring project in the region. They work in 9 areas: the rights and responsibilities of children and adolescents, prevention of drug addiction and gambling, suicide, bullying and cyberbullying, violence, formation of sexual integrity, healthy lifestyle, choice of profession and professional orientation, creative thinking, financial literacy.Let us recall that in total, last year, 35,643 jobs were created in the Zhetysu region, of which 22,719 were permanent jobs. 27,794 people were covered by active measures to promote employment, 23,286 people were employed, of which 13,261 were placed in permanent jobs.Press service of the akim of the Zhetysu region.
